[About BattleGoat Studios
BattleGoat Studios is a Canadian Software Developer committed to developing leading edge “Intelligent Strategy Games” for the PC. Although Supreme Ruler 2010 is the first PC title they have developed, their game design history dates back to 1982. The design team firmly believes that Strategy Gamers are looking for more sophisticated games (boy they got that right) that also remain fun to play. BattleGoat insists that their approach to development will always emphasize an accurate, heavily researched environment assuring players an entertaining and immersive gameplay experience]

Now this sounds like my kind of developer. So, anyone have this game? I been reading the AI is remarkably good and tough and ruthless and gangs up on you. Sounds good to me.

I have been having remarkable difficulties finding it, even though it came out almost two months ago. Or, more correctly, I can find it, but if I want to buy it online, the cost gets prohibitive.

I have played the demo, though, and it's very good. The sort of game that Superpower 2 wanted, but failed, to be.

Check out Amazon.com in the Used or almost new section. I've bought many games from this section and had no issues with them not being complete or working. Just be sure and read what the seller is sending, sometimes they only have the CD's, but, most times they have the complete game, manual and box. I found one for $29.99 at Amazon.com

I picked up the game a few weeks ago and have been playing off and on with the Michigan-Ohio-Indiana scenario. The game was very difficult to find but eventually a gamestop employee revealed to me that they had a few copies of SR 2010 in the backroom. The US retail box is about 35% thicker then the industry standard, so it does not fit in the 'security boxes' that some stores use in the states.

Because of the above, some stores do not shelf it.

Anyway, in my limited experience I would say that the diplomatic AI can be very aggressive in declaring war on a human player. Apparently it is not uncommon for the AI nations to gang up on a human player.

However, the tactical AI is pretty limited. The AI makes little effort to concentrate its attacking forces and often will use only a small percentage of its available forces in a given war.

In my current game I have made many mistakes and derserve to be crushed like a bug by the two nations I am at war with. However, the AI attacks timidly and often is content to let a front go cold for extended lengths of time when my forces are in disarray and ripe for slaughter.

Still, there is something very appealing about bombing Indiana with my Michigan F15s.

From some AAR's I've read, it appears that the AI is quite happy to play out a "stalemate" with the human player, which in a sense is as good as a loss in my eyes of the human player who could not overcome the overwhelming AI's against him. In the couple of AAR's I've read, people have been pretty quick to call a game a "draw" or "stalemate" instead of "waiting till the AI does in fact" come in and finish them off. heh
One AAR I read was quite exciting in the way the AI played him, was the "Sibera" scenario I believe. He quit as the AI was approaching him from 3 sides, calling it a "draw" lol

I'd much rather play against an AI that at least goes for a draw than an AI that goes for nothing at all and it feels like just a march around the map taking province/nation one after the other like say RTW and HOI(2).

I'll have it soon and give it a go on it's "hardest" difficulty" and then report back my findings. I have a feeling this one is going to be one of my greatest challenges in a long time. ;)

Try the demo. I played it a bit and was pretty excited about the depth and number of choices for military units, etc. But I played 5 minutes of combat and dropped the whole thing. I have NO idea what's going on, no feedback whatsoever. A bunch of units mis-mashed together, some battle sounds, and suddenly a bunch of my guys have been destroyed. What? How? Why? ehhh

The modern units seem to travel so fast, it was very hard to play even at the slowest setting. An air unit can travel across an entire state in a couple of seconds of game time.

Strategy First, the publisher, has launched an on-line store on their website. Now, if only they'd get around to making it available through direct download...

As an "OPTION" yes that would be nice for those that enjoy direct download, as an ONLY means of getting their products, no, I would disagree totally. ;)

Well, as an option was sort of what I meant...

Hi, I have only played the demo but this game looks "most excellent" I can usally outscore the AI by avoiding war and just building my economy. However the bugger has a nasty habit of doing a Pearl Harbor on me if I let it get too much stronger then me.
I have never won a war. (yet) But I tend to play Wyoming or Montana
