The manual seems to say under 7.1 that you cannot stockpile more than 50 units of labor, yet it appears that I have more than that. Also, I see that the downpayment cost for some units is more than 50 labor. Is this a misprint, or am I misunderstanding something?

Welcome to the manual.

It also say that level 5 and courts produce diplomats can do 2 actions but it also says that you cna only do 1 action until you are Empire when you can do 2. Diplomat from a level 5 Court or not.

Yes, although I think it is both a very good and a very ambitious game, there are some rough spots to work out with the manual, the in-game communication, and, I suspect, the implementation of some features.

I figure by posting all the things I see, I will get clarification where I am simply misunderstanding, while also leaving a list for the developers of things that really do need ironing out.

Nonetheless, I cannot remember the last game that took on so interesting a subject in such an ambitious way. And personally, I have no problem being a first day buyer who, in effect, becomes a game tester as the last bits get ironed out. My only complaint would be if the developers turned out to be uninterested in polishing it up.

So far they seem to be very arrogant and condescending. They have a war game in whihc they have abstracted Economics and the Naval War to the point where the game would be smoother without them...They should have left it alone and just assumed the economy and developed a system where one had to do more work to develop units like horse quality and training, stockpiling uniforms and muskets, cannon production...ie concentrated on the logisitcs of war...instead they have abstracted logistics, Naval War and the economy to the point where it would be a smoother game if you had the option to just turn those off.

I have not seen the developers being arrogant and condescending. In fact, I have not seen the developers posting much at all since release, as they were at a gaming convention where the game was released. The designer has posted less than ten times since people started buying the game. Who are "they?"

I think this is a misprint in the manual, and the labour limit is 150. But I am not sure.

I will take your word on it. Like many people my interest in the time period began with things military and has over the decades evolved into trying to understand the political and economic system that was able to make it happen.

I have not discussed details like the unrealistic size of the armies, etc...if you are going to have an economic model it should work and make sense. I only made observations on things like spice because Cane Sugar and Pepper had their needs reduced during the course of the war...

I have suggested upgrade to the economy based on factories and factories and ag together...so if one pickes the semaphore upgrade it mimises the effect of bad news on morale because the government controls news better...or if the French Pick the Sugar Beet upgrade it would produce and extra spice in every province with a farm production above a certain level. I would also allow countires their historic first so that Austria could not choose the sugar beet upgrade until after the French had developed it.

The game states that lumber is part of Agriculture but on the slider it is a seperate key...I would change that to naval stores being produced at factories out of wood much like textiles. One of the critical resourses was the only wood for mast available to the UK at this time came from Scandanavia or New England...the same with pitch...the UK was not self sufficient in Naval Stores and were constantly governing the foreign policy by the supply concerns of the Royal Navy.

But the French are the only economy I can imagine grinding to a halt because they can't get Sage and Thyme...Certainly Algerian Wine wouldnot keep them going. France's relationship with Algeria was not what the game depicts and there was active piracy which could be abated by payments or force....pretty much until 1820 when the UK made an expedition the Americans were the only ones fighting the Pirates...speaking of which I would like to see an American Fleet in the Med...it is more realistic than Turkish ones in the Channel in both games I played.

A lot could be done with the characters in the game as well. It would also be easy to abstract the map to include an American player. Since the victory is Glory Points as opposed to Military the American would have a chance. In the new world one could add in a few of the major colonies and then we could have the grain fleet coming which resulted in the battle of the Glorious First of June or the Trafalgar Campaign in which both fleets went to the Carrib first. Without that there is little reason for the fleet in Cadiz to act as it did historically. And why could Napoleon not sell Louisiana or any other Colony to the highest bidder?

There are things which could be done without major design changes which I think could radically improve the economy.

Make a whole list of reasonable changes/improvements you think would make the game more enjoyable. It has been my experience that Ericbabe will read and consider them and maybe even explain why he will/wont include any changes in a patch/expansion. Just don't expect an overhaul of the game engine.

There are some numbers that were tweaked from the values in the manual after the manual was finalized. We'll take these along with the errata we find and shall either produce an errata or a manual update at some point. May I beg you all to post any other discrepancies you find in a thread in the support area? At that place they can be more centrally organized.
