In the previous thread subject; "New Install V.5.01 trouble...." I had reported problems with my attempt to run a clean install from SPWaW 5.01-internet.exe which I had downloaded from a few different sources. My initial reaction (corrupted download?) was the same as others have stated both in the mentioned thread and in previous posts to this forum reporting the same problem. The problem I was having was that after downloading and unzipping SPWaW 5.01-internet.exe I would attempt to execute the installation, the initial instalation screen would appear for a split second then the install would abort and send me back to the desktop. After looking for an answer to this problem myself by adjusting my PC's various hardware and software configurations I was still unable to locate the cause of this problem. Further investigation thru this forum was unable to provide a solution either. While I do thank "chief" & "gmenfan" for their input I am not sure they understood my problem...Hell!! I'm not sure I even understood my problem!! I did find an answer though. I examined the properties of "SPWaW 5.01-internet.exe" and found that the install program used by Matrix was produced by Indigo Rose Software Design Corp.

Sooooooooo I went to their web site and checked out the forums to see if this was unusal. The answer; Unusual yes, uncommon no. Turns out that various users of this install program called Setup Factory 5.0 had reported similar problems to mine. The problem had been traced to an issue with the file "Riched32.dll" (a WordPad related file) being missing, corrupted, or the wrong version for the users operating system. What would appear to happen is that (and keep in mind I am NOOO Tecnical computer wizard) when the install program is luanched it calls on the above .dll file to write to your screen. If you do not have the correct, uncorrupted version of this file and you are using a Win 9x OS, the installation program is unable to report progress and thus aborts the installation and dumps you back to the desktop. A very complicated solution is often mention in Indigo Rose's forum but I was able to find a much simpler one. The above file needs to be replaced/restored before installation can proceed. A quick search on the net found a small executable program that restores the .dll to it's original state. I will not include the link here now but rather forward it to the moderator of this forum for his further investigation. If anyone else does have this problem they are welcome to contact me and I will be happy to e-mail the fix for them to try. Great news, glad to hear your up and running. Wouldn't have even thought it was OS problem especially with that file because it is used in some many apps, I would have figured other problems would have occured sooner. Well any how, Welcome and enjoy, please join us in the SPWAW forum for any questions you may incur with the game.
