The Uncommon Valor v2.42 Limited Public Beta should be available later tonight or early in the morning. Please post feedback on this release in this thread only. Thanks.

Bugs Fixed:

1) Aircraft were disappearing for no apparent reason. Fixed.
2) Pilots in excess of maximum aircraft for group were being retained. Fixed. Note that if the group has many excess pilots, it may take a couple turns to reassign them all and pilots with kills will not be removed from group, so if you have a 24 plane group with 28 pilots, all of whom have kills, don’t worry. Be happy.
3) Coast watcher reports for enemy shipping far out to sea were being generated. Fixed.
4) Air groups in the reinforcement queue with zero aircraft were being classified as “Disbanded/Withdrawn”. Fixed. All groups in the queue are now classified as “Reinforcement”.

Clarification: When a player tries to bomb a target hex, with friendly troops in it, effectiveness will be reduced, as group commanders try to avoid friendly fire casualties.

Clarification: If orders to load a task force are given and the entire load can be accomplished, immediately, the load orders become “Idle”. So, if you give orders for a fast task force to load a small land unit and it can load the entire unit right then and there and you want to take some supply in some extra, empty destroyers, you should then click on “Load Supply”.

Erik,

Bug Report:
Scenario 19 - Allied vs. Japanese AI - Historical - started under version 2.42

While Transfering a C-47 squadron form Cairns to Townsville the C.O.'s plane was an operational loss and he was killed. The C.O. was replaced with a staff officer. All buttons in the air group screen stopped working. I was unable to exit that screen, I was however still able to select another air group but the buttons still did not work. I exit the scenario and reloaded the save game. Same problem. Save available upon request.

BTW I have not seen any other problems yet.

You need to exit the game to fix it. It's one of GUI quibbles.

Bug # 1 is still happening. I Have saves available of float planes disappearing off of my USN CA's. I had stood them down on turn 1 and they have reduced in size from 4 to 1 aircraft. Also two of my stood down USAAF C-47 squadrons have reduced in size from 16 to 12 aircraft.

very odd. one of my first tests was to verify this bug was squashed. My machine experienced no loss of aircraft, C-47 or otherwise in a 3 week (game-turn) run. Prior to the patch, the loss of aircaft started as early as Turn 2.

can you send me a save? before/after. (lansoar@hotmail.com)

Nik, I assume you can patch directly from 2.30 to 2.42...

If this is the case, I'll do a fresh install of 2.30 this weekend, then patch to 2.42...

I'll let you know how it goes this weekend...

Meant to do it this last weekend...but some stuff came up...

Nik, I did a clean install of 2.30, then went directly to 2.42...

I can verify the same problems timtom has.....Scenario 7, after turn 1, hordes of c-47s dissappeared from Townsville.....some Wirraways too...

maybe it's a scenario specific bug?
I didn't have time to really delve into the game this weekend....

OK, i've received a set of saves from Tanjman that i was able to test tonight. Using the 2.42 patch, I am not getting any disapearing aircraft using the 'before' save

Does anyone else have a save that I might use to compare? Unless we can get a working save, I doubt Mike will be able to nail this bug assuming it has become unsquashed again.

Juggalo,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you needed to go from 2.30 to 2.40 then to 2.42

Yes Nik, I am sending you a set that again shows F4Fs disappearing for no reason.

I asked about that before, but didn't receive an answer...so of course I assumed going from 2.30 to 2.42 was legit...

I'll try your suggestion tonight.
Thanks.

Still the same problem within scenario 7.....only this time one of the c-47 groups went to ZERO aircraft after one turn of play...

Surely you don't have to apply patches 2.30>2.40>2.41>2.42????????

By the way Matrix-people, thanks for making this a BETA patch...hopefully one of us will nail this bug dead....

Yes, please update through the full set of updates - 2.30 -> 2.40 -> 2.41 -> 2.42 Beta. We cannot currently duplicate the issue with the disappearing C-47s in your save. Has anyone else seen this?

Regards,

- Erik

Hi
I just started scenario #7 as Allies.
Noted the number of planes in air groups in T'ville.
Issued no orders and ran the first turn.
When I checked the planes at T'ville, the number of planes in the groups had dropped, even one group dropped to ZERO planes. Almost identical to timtom 8/2/42 screen dump.

The updates have been applied in correct order ending with 2.42

[EDIT]
The number of pilots assigned to the air groups agree with the number of ready planes before the turn is executed.
After the turn, the groups still display the same number of pilots but the number of ready/damaged planes has dropped.

OK, so I reinstalled UV yet again but this time in a differnt directory and applied all the patches in the correct order....still no joy...

So I start tinkering with game files......deleted uv.prfs and uncommonvalor.bakk....didn't help...

opened up settings.ini file....it says "CurrentVersion=2.30" or something like that..I changed it to say 2.42 and rebooted......still broken...

fooled around with the registry and also checked airplane data in the scenario editor.....all looks fine there...

I know it's gotta be something simple!!!!

I give up......

I received a 2nd set of saves from Nomad. Same result as with the first set. I am not seeing the aircraft groups highlighted losing their aircraft. On a hunch suggested by Michaelm, i downloaded the beta patch and reinstalled and reran the saves and started a new scenerio. No joy. Still no disapearing aircraft.

Very odd.

Hi
If you still have planes disappearing in scenario #7, try this and see what happens:
Use the Scenario editor and loadup #7.
Then use "Save as .." into slot 27.

Start up UV and start scenario #27.
Run first turn and see if planes (esp those in T'ville) stay put.
This worked for me (although don't understand why?).

If this works for more people than just me, it may give a pointer to whats causing issue.

Hi
the INI file reflects the initial install version, IIRC.

Mine shows 2.20 which is the version I got on CD.

Hi,
I have tried the beta patch. I still had the disappearing C-47 bug in Scen. 7. I did as michaelm suggested and it seems to work: if you save the scenario before playing it and then load it from the slot where you have saved it, the C-47s do not disappear any longer. Good find, michaelm! I hope it is useful to squash the bug.

Damn, I just realised you are the same Erik Rutins as the one who publish the article about a game I just ordered (http://www.wargamer.com/reviews/triumphofchaos%5Fpreview/)

Oh well, at least, if you don't manage to squash the planes-disappearing bugs, I will stay in 2.30 and console myself in the Russian conflict...

Hi
I too have a/c disapperaing in scen #7 - especially C-47s when typically they go down from 75 at start to only 27 after 1 turn (all C-47 sqns lose a/c except 36 Sqn RAAF at Brisbane, see below). I've done what Michael says and this alleviates the problem a bit - all C-47 sqns are ok except 33 Sqn RAAF at Brisbane which usually goes down from 10 to 5 a/c.

Now here's the interesting bit, running scen #7 has the following sqns starting at Brisbane:
63 BS
80 FS
100 Sqn RAAF
23 Sqn
33 Sqn - C-47 (11) 1 replacement a/c added to starting strength of 10
36 Sqn - C-47 (16)

Using the editor, however, shows only 3 RAAF Sqns shoud start at Brisbane (100, 23 & 33), 63 BS has location set at 'none' and delay of 90. 80 FS location also at 'none', delay at 60, and 36 Sqn location 'none' delay 0 - so why are the two US sqns at Brisbane at the start? (I can understand 36 Sqn as its delay was 0)

Scen #7 reinforcement schedule doesn't have the three sqns in it - as you would expect.

Now saving scen #7 in slot #27 and then running it has the following sqns at Brisbane
100 Sqn RAAF
23 Sqn
22 Sqn
36 Sqn

The two US sqns are now in the reinforcement schedule as expected (and at the right time), and presumably 36 Sqn is in Brisbane as its delay was 0 - but still, why the change when only saving #7 as #27 and nothing else? maybe this might help to explain why Nik can't duplicate the error from a saved game?

lastly, opening scen #7 has the following two sqns as being the first to arrive...
4 Sqn RAAF in 6 days arriving at unknown (editor says 98 days at 'none')
431 BS in 13 days arriving at Noumea (editor says 105 at 'none')

But scen #27 has these two as the first...
9 Sqn RNZAF in 30 days (as per editor)
39 FS in 30 days, both as per editor (as per editor)

btw, reinforcements set at 'fixed'

I bought UV retail on CD at v. 2.30 and have sequentially patched it each time one has come out.

Hope the above might help in squashing this?

rgds

Yep, that was me. David Dockter has made a great game there, enjoy. Mike and Nik continue to look at this bug, we would really rather not release v2.42 until we have it squashed.

By the way, they misspelled your name in the caption above the article as "Author: Erik Rutkins", so at first I was not sure it was you, but they spelled it correctly in your Bio at the end, and there couldn't have been that many Erik working for Matrix with a very similar name.

Cheers, and good luck to squash that nasty bug
