A frend of mine wanted to play SPWAW with me but in his computer only the version 7.1 runs. I found 4.5 and the uppdates to 7.1. I did the installation twice but always an error message appeared: "Can not find VID998.SMK". I downloaded that file from the Nett and after some discussions received advice to put it to the SND\stream folder. But no help, even now the program "Can not find VID998.SMK.
Is the problem that SPWAW's folder is SPWAW_71 and not "Steel Panthers World at WAR"? OR WHAT?

I have versions 8.20 and 8.30 in different folders and get bouth of them running easily. Why not 7.1?

Hmm--you already have the vid998.smk? Maybe the problem IS the name of the directory you have 7.1 in. Try right-clicking the mech.exe in 7.1 and find out what the start path is.

It should be in .snd folder and in the stream file...last one on list.

vid998.smk is now bouth in SND and in SND\stream. The path of mech.exe which I use for starting is
"D:\Pelit\Matrix Games\SPWAW_71\MECH.EXE"
but when started: vid998.smk not found, program aborted. The panel is designed according to the SPWAW style ...

Should I try again installing 4.5 and going through the uppdate path? When shall I put vid... in and in which folder?

Or do you think that a wise commander sometimes surrenders?

Fossiilli:

Why don't you just download a fresh 8.3 and update to 8.4, this would (probably) cure all your problems ?......try it.

It might be some registry issues on your PC--I know of several guys who have multiple installs of SPWaW, but I go with only one. In the testing of 8.4, I had to put that vid998smk into the snd/stream in order to get the beta versions to work. The FINAL public version of 8.4 resolved this.

Chief may be right. First, I would uninstall 8.4 completely, and use a program like CrapCleaner (use a Google search--it is absolutely free) to clean up leftover files and clear out any registry issues. Then, start from a fresh install of 8.2, followed by the 8.3 patch and then the 8.4 patch.

I have two versions of SPWAW running well. I would like to uppdate to 8.40, but it depends of my PBEM fellows. When some of them uppdates to 8.40 I hopefully soon have three SPWAW's, 8.20, 8.30 and 8.40 and wanted to have 7.1 also, but it seeems to be impossible.

I guess that the foulder were VID998.SMK is located is defined in some registry, or in the binary code of SPWAW. But were and what?

By the way, a real problem to me is, that for the sake of my old brain (71 years), the video is running too fast for me. In the manual it's told that "." will stop the video for a moment but it do not work and even that is a problem no one can solve. Is it corrected in 8.40?
