Not quite sure how I stumbled on to this forum but here I am.

I am an avid computer wargamer and haven't ever played board games with the exception of Risk and Battleship. Fun games yes, but not really in-depth war games. As for PC games, I have played many....all the Close Combats, MOHSH, OFP, Battlefield series, CC, Red Alert, MTW, RTW, HiddenDangerous etc. Recentl, I purchased Brothers in Arms which is a nice game and has some potential to develop into something greater. The problem is I am getting BORED to tears over the same old games over and over. Here is the standard procedure:

I typically bang out the single player game within a few days, or weeks, depending on my real life schedule. Then I move on to the online play which is usually overun with hackers, those who accuse everyone else of hacking, and the L33T/NOOB crowd. In addition to this, I have to wait for at least two or three patches to correct all of the issues that were unresolved before the game was released. The forums are filled with those bashing developers, publishers, fanboys, whiners, etc...it is really becomming too much to bear. Result? After a period of a few weeks, I have exhausted my interest in a game which cost $50 and the cycle repeats. Unless of course, the developer announces the "expansion" pack which supposedly fixes all the bugs from the first game, but also costs $39.99.

So my question after my mini-rant is, will this board game, which is apparently playable online in some form, provide some quality entertainment without the hassles of the current PC market? I can't imagine I am the only PC gamer who feels this way. I'm hoping something new and different would be a good thing. Any comments are appreciated.

I have seen the same sentiment over and over on many boards.

There is quite a few PC titles here at Matrix that just might interest you also.

couple of my favorites

1) Highway To The Reich
Best Operational RTS I have ever played

2) War In The Pacific
Has more depth then ANY PC game I have ever seen

Edit:
Welcome aboard Misery

In a few words, yes I believe you can. The boardgamer is a bit more mature and cant really hack the game. Although I have felt like doing some hacking on dice.

As in most things you wil get out of it what you put into it.

Good luck and good dice.

Welcome Misery!

I think you will find what you are looking for here at Matrix. Quite sure this game will be something for you but please also take a look at the various other games (computer) that Matrix has. This one is of course a board game and I'm quite sure an excellent one.

I'm seriously looking at Flashpoint Germany and, of course, keeping my eye on this game. I need to read up on this vassal system for online play. There aren't any gamers of this type that I'm aware of near me, so I rely on the net. That is why I get so frustrated trying to find some decent opponents in the other games I have played.

Thanks for all the replies!
