I've gone through the manual (which I printed on the back of some used paper and put into plastic sheet holders in a binder) a few times, but life is short and I can't find what I need, so here I am asking on line.

First, how do I transfer infantry from one division to another, as suggested in Ralegh's FAQ? or one cavalry to another?

Second, playing as France against the AI, how do I set parameters so that Austria is weaker against France, and Britain is weaker, as suggested somewhere in the forum as a way to make things a bit more "historical"?

G'day go to the Miliitary Advisors screen, highlight a move cursor over another division of the same type cursor changes to "men" just click and the men will transfer

To transfer units you need all the participating units in the same province. Once there right click on the provence and select the first menu option "inspect <Name of Province>". Then expand all the collections. Now click on the unit you want to remove troops from. The unit should highlight in green. Then click on the unit you want to add troops to. You may need to click a few times as there seems to be a limited spot where it will realize you want to move troop to the unit. Once the click works you get a pop up with a big slider in the middle. Drag the slider to the right until you have added in all the troops you want. Then click ok.

Repeated as need.

At game start you have the option on the startup screen to change the power of the nations. Lower the power for the nations that you want to have weaker.

The set up is "historical" as is..... to make it easier either change the difficulty level or adjust the power setting for each power you want to weaken or increase - each step up or down represents one corps, with 3inf, 2cav, and an art unit. The most you can change it is + or - 3.

Enjoy!

Ian

You can also transfer units in this way from the Military Advisor screen.

If you are playing France vs the AI, I suggest you set difficulty at Bonaparte, give every AI nation a Power of at least +1 (Exceptions: leave Spain at 0 since they're your allies, give +2 to Britain so they can easily rebuild all those armies they will leave stranded in Normandy, and give Sweden +2 because they're so damned weak), and give yourself Power -1 (or -2).

If that seems harsh, remember what nation you are playing and who you are playing against

At regular difficulty levels, you will win the game by default as the French if you simply leave your entire army sitting in Paris the whole game.

Thanks, all. And thanks Ian77 - I found the power settings! So they just add or remove troops. Slow learning curve blues!
