I just purchased Imperial Glory and once the mind blowing graphics wore off (4days) I realized I expected much more. I am thoroughly enjoying Crown of Glory. But as with all games the more you play them the more you become aware of some limitations, so here are my suggestions:

1) The player should be able to choose each time for detailed or quick battles. I prefer detailed, as I enjoy games at that level as well as strategic and operational. Plus I was really disappointed to be forced to surrender when I was not given the option and was defeated by only a slightly larger army. All nations were exhausted militarily and the numbers were small approx 25,000 ea, but the battle was critical to both sides and I lost on the quick battle map.

2) I think having more historically accurate and larger detailed combat maps, a great deal of work, would be very beneficial. For example if each province was done in a hexmap with real cities and roads. Each player could set up his own forces unless surprised. This would allow operational movement of the armies and tactical combat within the divisional framework of the game. It would be much more appealing and real to actually figth for Viennna, Berlin or Leipzig. This game is strong strategically and fun tactically, but has a limited an operational component, which was where most battles were won or lost. Roads seem to often go nowhere. Each map could have one or more objective hexes, but I digress.

A)Real Maps
B)Setting up your own units

These are the main two. This would be a great patch/upgrade.

3) I cannot figure out if you are able to reinforce existing units, if not this should be allowed.

4) I need more generals, they are getting killed off at a very high rate.

That is it for now. I am really enjoying the game and my wife really hates it. A great sign that you have found something that works.

1. Normally you get the choice unless you set your options to only use quick battles, or the total number on each side is not at least 30000 (this is a guess based on experience) or the battle is very lopsided, ie 5 divisions to 1 or 2. To help with winning battles in Quick combat make sure to have a Depot in the province so you are supplied.

2. I think it works fine the way it is.

3. Build Depots or put units into garrison and they will get reinforcements, took me a long time to figure this out. Depots need to be in the ending location of the army and have a chain of them to a province you control. To build a Depot right click on the province and select build depot.

4. You get Generals about 16% of the time when you have a battle with 2000+ casualties on your side, so if you are like me and you only take a 1000 or less casualties from detailed combat, then you will never get a new general. So you need about 5 battles where you take 2000 + casualties to get a new general. I have been playing France in 1792 and it is now Feb 1795 and I have gotten two Generals during that time. I have not lost any yet. I am carefull about who goes around charging everything in site so that I limit the exposure of the General, I use them more to recover units then to increase combat ability.

Glad you are having fun with the game.

Unfortunately we don't currently have the manpower to implement historical battlefields, though we would love to. This is something we continue to look at, but it may never arrive unless there is a second edition of the game someday (!). Here's hoping, I guess!

We have also given a lot of thought about battle setups. Again, I'm not sure we'll be able to implement anything in the near future, but we will continue to try and work on it. There is maybe a slightly higher chance of this happening in a future patch than historical battlefields.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I, for one, would like to be able to select Detailed Battle sometimes even when the troop levels are under the limit. In fact, almost always.
