Can anyone tell me the range of the 5” rockets fired out of the MK30 and MK36 launchers mounted on LSM(R) type ships. The real range (supported by a google search or real world experience) not the info listed in the database in WiTP. I’m completely unconvinced any of the allied invasion support ships are worth a darn in the game. Better to fill up you invasion TF with DDs or other warships then include any LSM(R) (or others of that type) to provide firepower support.

Have you got anything concrete to back that up?

Over the last year I’ve conducted tons of test using both the tutorial scenario and my ongoing allied v AI game. I even felt compelled to post this observation more then 12 months ago. The final verdict from the Mods was: “works as designed.” Short, sweet and vague as usual. I continued to play my game and now it’s 1945 and I have a ton of these worthless ships.

I ask anyone to run tests on his own and you will see. Create an invasion TF and fill it with only APs (carrying the troops) and these support ships, LCI(G), LSM(R), LCI(M) et all. Go invade some moderately strong base and watch the casualties. Then run the test again and this time substitute the support ships with CAs, DDs, DEs, APDs ect. Way less casualties and way more disruption to the defender. Run the test numerous times to weed out the odd “fluke die roll”. Warships help, these support ships don’t

The only time I ever got the rocket support ships to fire and contribute (other then more targets to shoot at) was when I increased the range of the rockets. The editor shows the rockets have a range of 5. Is this realistic? I don’t know but with the range of an M2 Browning .50 cal at 7 and 40mm Bofors at 11, and having these work during invasions, it seems the rockets are bit short legged.
