Yes it does say all BN5 launched torpedoes. I would call for a redo, that is horse manour. They arent all supposed to launch torpedoes

You were lucky that all Kates dropped torpedoes but tests done on previous versions (v1.5) showed that if you change the KB settings so that all Kates will fly port attack on first turn at 2000 feet, you usually sink between 4 and 8 BBs. In tests reported between 50% and 100% of the Kates dropped torpedoes.

having often been the recipiant of a no BB's sunk result as the Japanese player i would not call for a restart. It was an extraordinary piece of dice work but as Allied, i'd take it. Fortunes of war.

There are several dice rolls here. Not just the fact that all the Kates dropped torps. Also included is the damaged inflicted. In my PH raid against Grotius, several of his BBs got equal numbers of torp hits (about half the Kata Datais dropped torps) but I didn't sink a single one. The gods of war were not with me that day.

Yes it's an incredible result. I'm currently working of tuning my moves on turn 1 and most of time ( over most an hundred PH attack), only 1 BB is sunk.

But it's the odd of wars, just a total tactical victory will not make the allies or the japanese loose. Many other battles will perhaps change the result of the war.

I say good for you Francois. Don't redo the turn. It is pretty rare that you get such an extreme and, in your case, favorable result. You deserve it. Now the question is "how will the war turn out?". What will your opponent do to win the war?

So call me stoopid but does "heavy damage" imply "sunk".
I like the idea of WITP but I've never had the weeks of time to invest in the game so I never went down that road. I'm still intersted in it though.

I totally agree with this tactic. Slamming Manila on 12-07-41 gets rid of all those pesky subs. I would rather deal with 3-4 extra old US BBs in 43 than deal with the US subs from day 1.

Plus doing this positions the KB to wreak havoc during the evacuation of the PI and DEI.

I would keep the result as well. Ninety percent of all stock WitP PH attacks achieve less than historical results - after THREE days of attacks. That isn't a pie in the sky number, I ran 100 trials of the PH for three days of attacks. The vast majority of attacks see 0 or 1 BB sunk on day 1. In no case did the combined system damage of all BB on day 1 significantly exceed historical results. In roughly 90 percent of cases, historical results were not achieved after three days of attacks.

The best way to assure yourself of an effective PH attack is to split all your Kate squadrons. With the Kate squadrons split, KB gets 18 chances to drop torps instead of 6 unsplit. Using that method, I averaged about 2 BB sunk, with one attack netting 5 BB sunk. (Another 100 trials of 3 days worth of attacks. ) My best 3 day total was 7 BB.

Seeing 8 BB sunk on day 1 alone is a fantastic result and you should be delighted.

The best I have had is 3 BB's sunk. I like to go for PH since smacking battlewagons is good. Especially since i'm excellent at ASW eh Nik?

Very nice strike !!

BBs are not that important to US, though. CVs are, and not only in sense of game points. Sunk US CV is about 4 BBs in strategic value IMHO. So as Allied player I'd not be too sad about those old battlewagons in PH.

I'd rather force the USN to come play in my backyard in '42. With the KB, long range bombers, modernised battleships and last (and least) submarines, let him try to "rescue" the Philippines. Has worked well for me...

Before. My opponent's lost 2 CV, 1 CVL and 3 BB to that tactic. I'm down 1 CV and 1 CVL.
