Hey good night to you all. I'm playing a few PBEM games and one game we are on turn 7 and he has 19 loads and quits and I have 7 turns and quits, that just doesn't seem legit to me....

That's a good example of why I don't bother with PBEM games.

Play online games instead if you got the time. Players can't pull off any stunts like that live and there much more fun

PBEM is as much a trust issue as anything else. If they are cheating with multiple loads, they probably are cheating in other ways (can you pull a PBEM game into the editor?). I haven't played PBEM because I think you have to be familiar with somebody before you play them, and since I stink pretty badly at the game anyways, most names I am familiar with such as VikingNo2 I wouldn't want anything to do with my first time out because my poor skillz would only be magnified.

PBEM is definitely a matter of trust. Get to know people (on this forum, for instance) first, before playing them. I'm currently playing SP PBEM against Speedy from the WitP forum, and I got to know and like him a lot before I even challenged him.

Sounds like you are on the right track Terminus. Help me out here--what is the WitP forum? Thanks.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but ...........................

Could it be that your opponent opens up the game, makes a few moves, then closes it up to mull over what he/she has done.
They give it a bit of a think .................... later in the day, or next day they open it up again and make some more moves.

Repeat until all units are moved, then they send it your way.

I'm pretty new at PBEM and depending on how many points I'm working with - I surely can't devote a whole evening to move everything in one go-around. (I'm simply not good enough to know what I'm doing).

As long as they have opened and closed it the same amount of times, I would like to believe that your opponent is just taking their time to do their turn as best as they can, rather that rushing through it all at once.

In almost every game I've been a part of I think I've done what your partner is doing. (please see remark above concerning my not knowing what I'm doing)

I know I would sure hate to be accused of cheating.

FWIW - my 2 cents worth.

Your situation only shows he has more often opened and closed the game, as the Major says. I'd get suspicious if the had 19 starts and 7 quits. This would suggest he had been closing without saving and replaying a turn.

You may have your suspicions, but what you present is not evidence. I'm also a bit concerned that we don't have his story - Have you asked him what's going on? I usually have more starts and quits than my PBEM opponents, because I can't always fit in a complete turn in one session - I have a life outside SAPWAW. I would be distressed and resentful if that labelled me a cheater. You might consider the effect of labelling him a cheater if he is not.

There are many ways to cheat without making it obvious like this. If you don't like it, you don't have to play with him again.

I play regularly with an opponent and we always use the same passwords. It's an old fashioned and unviable concept called trust.

I suggest you might use George W*'s technique (You're a cheat and an evil person, and I don't care that I haven't found any evIdence yet. Then and send him a large message on turn 5 that prematurely ejaculates "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED")

My advice?

Don't play that opponent again if his actions aren't justifiable ...

or ...

accept another challenge on a "level" playing field ...

or ...

consol yourself with the knowledge that you played an honest game and that a person that cheats ... only cheats himself!

I have to agree with Major Mess.

If your opponent knows where your units are, he is likely using his recon units in a smart way.

I lose pbems all the time but don't ascribe that to cheating by my opponents. Getting your recon units into good positions early in the battle really helps you. And I need all the help I can get to learn how to do that.

Maybe you do too?

I mean it is a jungle battle close quarters I can't see him seeing me well when visability seems to be like 3 and my strong units always get smashed to rubble.

But ah well life goes on I was playing quite a bit back when 7.1 and H2H were released and played about 20 ppl and none were that freaking quick at recon and they always went crazy with snipers etc.

It could be "luck". Also the aspect of sheating and how to.. was covered somewhere in this forum or at the Depot.

I would have thought it simpler to make a copy check out your forces and them play with the "real" version.. And WIN. Also this would not show lots of login/outs as you mention..

This is the simplest method of "clandestine" recon.

Given the fact that Gun Nut said his opponent is losing anyway, this is probably a big battle and his opponent might have limited playing time, thus the high number of saves/restores.

Please remember folks .... it's only a game!

IMO - the best way to improve your game is to play (and get beaten by) people better than you. That, and to read the forums!

The above sums up my time. I would hate to think that I would be accused of being a cheat because I can not play a large turn in one sitting.

I will normally state this before I commence a game.

If you suspect that your opponent isn't doing the right thing, challenge him. Don't just stop playing with him. It can be very frustrating if he is being honest and loses an opponent mid game.

Hello Kokoda, it's been a while.

Does he have 19 loads and 19 quits or 19 loads and x number of quits?

If it is 19 / 19, then that just means a lot of short sessions. Cheating, at least in the most common way, wouldn't result in those numbers. However, as another suggested, if there are a lot more loads than quits, then he most likely is cheating (or has a very crash prone system) and isn't very smart about it.
