Hey,

I need to buy a new computer (in the UK) and will probably get a laptop. Is there anything that will prevent or impact me playing WitP (or CoG or any other fine Matrix products)? Specifically worried about a Centrino chip vs Pentium M or the like. Do plan on 512Mb RAM.

I bought a new super value laptop recently (Celeron M 1,4 ghz, 256 mb ram), 40 gb hd and a 64 mb (shared from main memory) graphic card.
WITP runs fine, just a little slower than on my desktop PC. Sharshatter (last patch) does not run. I have yet to try with GG: World at War.
Pay attention to games that need heavy requirements from graphic card if you buy a low-end laptop.
As for the CPU, better Centrino than Pentium-M for a laptop IMHO, but for games generally graphic card is more important.
