I've just started playing the game -- figured out (more or less) the economy, moving units, fleets, etc. But I've noticed a rather big problem. When playing as France in the standard scenario, not all of my units will move. Specifically, the most important units in the game: les Grande Armees I et II. The first game I played, I think I moved nothing around at all, and I and II both moved. However, after learning the game, I wanted to restart and move the divisions around within the various corps and Armies because I really didn't like the game-start corps/army structure. But, when I move the divisions between the armies and corps, they do *not* move, and not all of the divisions move to their new corps/army.

I'm not sure if this is a bug of some sort, or a quirk of the game. But I do know that it is extremely annoying, to say the least. Do I need to detach the divisions to the province and then place them in the proper corps and army? Please tell there is a logical reason why this occurs, and a reasonable way to change my order of battle.

I tried this in two separate games, and I have saved games for both of them immediately prior to the turn processing, should this be some form of an error.

Thanks!

Without knowing exactly which moves you are attempting and which ones fail it's hard to say what the issue might actually be, if any. Could you perhaps be more specific as to which moves/attachments you are attempting?

The main reason that attachment attempts fail is that they might violate the size limitation rules. Also some players didn't realize that a division has to be in the same province as a corps/army in order to be given the order to attach to that corps/army.

That explains why some of the attaching fails -- I'm trying to pack too many divisions in (3 corps of 8 divisions each -- whoops!), but I'm also stripping the second army down to a skeletal structure by removing a bunch of divisions, and it's still not moving. All of this is happening in Flanders, in the first month of the game. I'll try again tonight to see what the heck is going on. It might be that I'm overpacking the army with divisions from the second army, and that's causing a problem with moving for both or something.

Also, do leaders count for the amount of divisions/attachments an army can hold? (Which is 20, as I recall.)

Thanks for the help!

Leaders should not count against size limit. There is a bug in 1.1 by which corps sometimes count against the size limit of an army could hold.

Note that attaching units takes up time during the movement phase and so large rearrangements may not all be accomplishable in a single month.

Hah! - He is just the game designer - what would he know? (j/k)
From observation of the game, attaching is free - it is detaching that costs time. (For those on the thread with military experience, I am sure it is returning all the stores to get cleared by the army/corps quartermaster.)

In general, you can attach divisions to an army or corps and move it, and it will all happen just fine. What you can't do is DETACH from an army/corps and expect the unit to move. Further, a unit that detaches won't be able to attach-and-move in that same month.

So for the big French stack at the start of 1805 - in the first month, strip people out of corps/armies. In the second month, attach em where you want them, and move away.
