Hello everyone. Just received my copy yesterday. Very nice. One thought though. While releasing my troops from thier cardboard prisons, some of them were not pre-cut so nice. Gently working these out created these rather ugly dogears. Yet when I first lifted the countersheets from the box, some fell right off the sheet. Anyway, how many of you clip the corners of the counters and what is your mindset for doing this.

Is it to rid yourself of the dogears, or some other advantage that escapes me? I have clipped only a couple games that I have owned in the past, and when finished, asked myself; "Why did I just do that?" I mean, it was not a sight of beauty! I was just wondering what others thought. Thanks in advance for the reply!

I get a new blade and my metal ruler and rescore them in the sheet, to try and keep it from occuring, but it seems you always get one or two.

Good Luck.

Xacto knife here. Like Troy said, some need a little more cutting. Always love a new game, but dread cutting out the counters.

EVERY box has counters that need to be cut? Or just some have this problem? If this is a common occurrence, it is not acceptible. I've bought 35 games in the last year that had counters that needed to be punched out, and I've had to cut...hmm...none of them.

Do Not clip. Use a scalpel to "cut" them. They cost like 50 cents in a drug store, respectivly are free if you have a girl that works in a hospital

It happens sometimes a die dose not go all the way through, not as much these days, but it is still there.

Even in my "German" game collection I get one in 5-10 games.

Its just good to be aware it can happen.

I have my regular counter clipping every time I buy a US (war)game.
For EURO-games I can't even remember that I ever needed to clip.

The advantage? Well - to get rid of those "Zumpferln" on the corners, where the counters love to stick with counters around them.

*LOL* - yes, my very first experience was a very bad one - I had no counters anymore, I had octahedrons.
But then I improved - clip only so little, that it looks like they have 'rounded' corners - whatever. Looks nice I think.

While I havent bought the game (yet), I used to cut all my SL and ASL, Flat Top, ect, counters with just a Streight Razor blade, I also trimed all the corners just slightly so they would stack better, toooooook foooorever, but was worth it, a tad anal to be shure, but I rarely touch that side of myself so it's ok

I haven't found any need to clip my counters, but I am in the middle of a mammoth clipping job with America in Flames... it's not a poort dies cut job. I just like the way that they look.

And Ektid? I'll be glad to come to your house to clip the counters. Just post your address.

The counter die-cutting in BoH is as good as I've ever seen. They break apart pretty cleanly, even at the anchor points. Regardless, I ususally run an X-Acto knife through the cuts just to get a clean edge.

Carcassonne comes with 84 very large and thick tiles that fall out of the frames. Perfect edges--not the slightest hint of a connection that needs to be cut. And all for $18.

Yes. All Rio Grande games appear to offer unsurpassed quality of both components and boards. Have you tried their "Waterloo" game or their "A House Divided" (US Civil War)? Thick, lush counters that drop out of their frames, with a matt, laminated feel and high quality mounted maps. A true benchmark.

Hey, how thick are the Lock And Load mounted boards by the way? Are they Avalon Hill standard or simply hard card? I'm curious going on the comments of some here reporting no crease folds and by a pic I saw on the Lock and Load website showing the game "Out of the Box".

Thanks.

Adam.

Not AH quality from the old days (i.e. SL, Panzer Leader etc.). But I'm very happy with them.

Thanks Elvis. I think I read you. Not solid but still quality. That explains the postage weight issue I was worried about when talking of an 8 map Nam game. I suppose those of us who own the Deluxe ASL games can have a ball with those maps as well. "Hedgerow Hell" in particular.

And btw guys, the above games I mentioned are by a company called Phalanx (doh) - here.
