I also posted this at the depot but it was in a previous thread of mine so i thought i would repost it here in case some folks were interested...

In the Works.

1. Battle Series Maps.

Designed for Pbem or challenging AI play.(By that i mean the AI does a good job of capturing key hexes.) Really interested in making some maps where the AI can really challenge me with out my having to handicap my self. Some promising results so far.

Lots of Map detail but not enough to clutter the map. Terrain/enviroment is the driving factor for this map series to make the game fun or playable for PBEM or AI play.

2. Scenario on the works.

A medium winter/spring map that will represent a German/Sov engagement. 1 large key city, 2 medium villages, 2 small villages, and key brigdes and road intersection will contain the victory hexes. Roads are very important as weather(mud and rough terrain) impede travel off the beaten path.

3. US/Japanese Campaign. 1943-1945.

Its loosely based on history. Three scenarios in the camaign are near completion. Do not know how long this will be as i am having serious fun making this one. This will need testing soon.

2 of the battle series maps have been uber tested against AI play and i am pretty happy with the results. They need some extensive PBEM play testing though.

The first would be Hill 232, a small map that can comftorabley accomodate small to large forces, it is reccommended for 18+ turns It plays fast and can be over well before that. Just sucks to have a close game end in a draw when there is still fighting to be done.. Its the map i would like to test first as the second map needs a tad more work before we give it a PBEM go.

Your forces start near the edge of the map and you need to make your way towards HILL 232 which has the victory flags strategically placed. Controlling the top of the hill will not get you the victory. You can still win by controlling the other layers of the hill(Which is pretty big.) Lots of structures and terrain to use to your advantage on offense or defense.
Places where Armour dare not tread due to terrain or structures helps boost INF units on this map.

This map really forces the player to choose his strat and purchases wisely. Do you want to spend a large amount of your money on some armoured cars or light tanks to secure the hill quickly, forgoing more inf which you will need to capture victory points not on the hill top? Or are you going Inf heavey with just a few AFV to hold key spots, so that you can swarm the hill in multiple places and overwhelm your opponent or outpoint him? Whats the right mix, what is my opponent doing? Actually the hill top is not required to win the map, it just to allow for more strats on this map.

I have been crushed by the AI on this map many times. It really picks some wierd OOBS that either destroy me early or crash and burn for the AI. Just last night i went Japan vs GB and the game was over in under ten turns! All Light tanks and minimal infantry. The AI caught me unloading near the hilltop(Man those light tanks have some distance!) and proceeded to annihilate me from turn 4 on. I had less then 50% of my starting force by turn 10 and was pushed off the hill top never to return. I did not have enough troops left to challenge enough of the victory hexes so it was game over for me. I was Happy and mad all at the same time.

I made the map with quick play in mind so it could also be played direct. I would like to give it a go that way as well after the pbem game out of curiousity. I think online play would benefit from more of a instant gratification. I like Pbem but i also like the ability to crush or be crushed in one night.

Ill post some pics of the maps and scenarios in the works when i get home from work tonight or tommorow morning.

Any takers on the first HILL 232 PBEM map?

Thanks in Advance!

How far along are you Ibalkid?

You might want to enlist some reviewers/testers. There are some good people here who would, I'm sure, be happy to look over your maps and even test your scenarios and campaigns.

So the US Japanese campaign, 43-45? How is it going? What do you plan to cover. You say it is historical. Are you doing Island hopping with the Army? New Guinea, New Georgia, Okinawa, and other areas need some representation in scenarios. I wish you the best.

Put up a post asking for vounteers to help and to critique. You won't be disappointed.

Hey thanks for the advice. A lax work schedule allowed me to get a good jump on the maps and campaign. Being a new player forces me to go slow as i try to digest all of the ins and outs of the game mechanics, then in turn make the missions a tad more dynamic.

Work(real life) has picked up again so things slowed last week in regards to continuing the maps/scns. Turned some family onto the game so am having fun learning the game with some fellow nerds.

The campaing is historical and is indeed based on island hopping with a few twist's thrown in. Doing a lot of research for the maps but am starting slow and simple so i do not get in over my head.

The battle series maps is fun to work on and instantly gratifying. The maps are designed for MP use, they are designed to stress tactics, decision making, force composure.

I would really like to test a map called HILL 232 with an experienced MP forumer to get some feed back. It is the map that is closest to being finished IMO. It plays fast and forces the players to make a lot of decisions quickly. I really think i need the input of a battle hardened MP SPWAW vet.

Where should i ask for a tester to do a few PBEM's with me? Here and at SpWAW?

Thanks again!

Yes. One nice thing about the SP community. Folks are always willing to help...and usually they do a great job.
