That pesky sub in mallacca straight nails a ML -it sinks
2 ASW groups now hunting it

At Broome
BB MUTSU and 7 DD attack
Vs 4 pt boats - sink 2
then
vs 4pt boats -sink 2
then
vs 3 pt boats -sink1

Mutsu delivers a very, very poor bombardment

1CL and 6 dd also sweep in, sink 1 pt, but lose DD akikaze to a torp

At Changsa 16 zero sweep -this is the training flight -lost 1 to ops, experience went up 1

14 sbc2 attack hong Kong -14 nate, 44 zero - shot down 11 of the buggars
Ouch 9 betties attacked canton (forgot them) -lost 6
(just a reminder that Gilberts are unhealthy to approach -even though no planes there now)
Mutsu is attacked on way out -she dodges well
The LRCAP at Akyab actually intercepts him -7 zero,9 oscar vs 12 wellingtons, 43 blenhiem -lost 1 oscar, shot down 8 blenhiem, 2 wellingtons
B17s hit mutsu twice -the bombs bounce

Area1
Must clear mallacca straight of subs!
back to cap at rangoon

Area2
Tijilijap has 30000 oil for some reason, a tanker is successfully loading it, good!
Some replacement DDs are enroute to kendari to replace op dark room losses

Area3
Quiet

Area4
disbanded those betties, poo

Area5
davao at 130000 fuel now
The CVs in Japan have until the BBs get home -then they must return to the war

All up op dark room achieved little tactically -but we wont know the strategic effect until later I feel

Asw near siapan -miss
Lots of training flights in china

91 zero,81 sally vs 6avg over wunchow -lost 2 zero, to 6 avg
27 zero,60 sally,53 helen hit wunchow -the air war in china begins to roll
2 hits only on the heavy industry, it will be a long road

his SBc-2 try again, only nates today, we wave at each other
Akyab hit for its daily dose
lost 14 a/c today to his 6, nearly all of my losses were ops

tomorrow kaga should refit

Little else to report, the fleet is ordered to gather as per the imperial plan.

Is tabpub still posting?

As we enter the nineth month of 42, I am begginning to become very nervous -I suspect that multiple, massive attacks will soon be launched.

But where?

he is not reconning a thing, so no clues at all.

I am now almost frantically trying to get pieces back into place after operation dark room.
If he gves me 2 weeks more I will be happy.
I have also decided that Truk will be where the CVs are to go, not davao, it can be a secondary base for fuel

Area1
Burma, Malaya and Thialand
The biggest problem is lack of troops -OH for those 2 divisions that the bug ate
I am really worried about an attack on moulimien or rangoon, cutting my forces in Burma off
To counter this a division is coming from soerabaya -currently destined for bangkok, but I am tempted to put it south of Rangoon.
Only 2 fast BBs are in the area.
I am aggressively flying deep missions over India with small numbers of betties -hoping to create the impression I am up to something

Area2 - java,sumutra,timor chain
Moving a AVE regiment from batavia to the Marianas
Soerabaya is down to its division and support troops, 21st regiment is still very damaged, I need to get it to Timor soon
Tijilitjap is 25000 ton of oil -and allowing loading -not sure if this is meant to happen, but Ill take it, seeing palembang production is currently exactly 10% of its potential

The fast combat groups of 1cl, 6dds are back in position, one is enroute to singapore -needs torpedoes.
I have enough planes in this theatre to pose a danger to a fast raid ( i hope)

Area3
PNG, solomons
Only the 4th division need repairing now, so 3 full ones are in reserve at truk again
supplies are good.
Lots of planes, and good pilots.

Area4
The gilberts
I need some supplies -but the area really is just a ghost area .

Area5
Convoys, the phillipines, borneo, celebes, home front
The 4 CVs left in japan are at 6 system damage now, 1 more week and they sail
The Hiryu and soryu are enroute to truk, along with the CVLs
The KB is going to concentrate at truk, fuel is being painfully gathered

China
the air war is heating up
I rested today, he struck from yemen to changsa -the big thing i notice is that large number of fighters just appeared at Kwieyang -lots of them -probably from India

So, a big breathe -instead of hitting Wunchow tomorrow, a max effort against Kweiyang

Other news
70th div is slowly growing at last
20 days until i can buy another -the 71st -but it too will have to be grown to full TOE

An ASW action in the mallacca straight, and again, and again

The tabpub is getting aggressive -the subs are coming back into play again.
A few E mail clues -he slips that the aussies are almost ready.
In China i make a big effort

61 sally,53 helen and 27 zero are intercepted by 41 AVG
Lost 6 zeros, 7 sally,3 helen

Not too Good
But got 96 hits
Then 92 zero escort 94 sally, 29 AVH rise, I lost 7 zero, he lost 27 AVG, only 13 hits

But the aVG is hurt badly
B17s from darwin hit lautern -5 hits
Pagan hit hard today
Timor reconned, maybe KB should go to davao after all

Area1
2nd div arrives at singapore, its all quiet still

Area2
Divided 18th div
going to send 1 regiment to timor, another to kendari as reserve, one to remain at soerabaya

Area3
All quiet

Area4
All quiet, betties reconning for me -thinking of a stalling KB raid into here
Thinking!

Area5

major decision
3 daitai of zeros move to japan -into long term reserve -crack pilots for later in the war
A small CL,6dd TF heads towards kendari, cl agano joins the fleet

I have decided to develope some sort of air reserve -not to be touched until franks and georges are on map
3 zero, 2 oscar daitai form the core -lillies to be added later.

kaga has upgraded
Area1
3 ASW actions today -all miss
But I do lose an AK .

Some fast ships spotted in the Bay -we put all naval bombers on standby

Area2
trying to distribute the troops

area3
ASW sinks a sub off wewak -lots of subs now on this coast -need more asw assetts!

Area4
All quiet

Area5
The air war in china continues
92 sally,5 zero hit Changsa -37 industry hits
58 sally,48 helen finish off wunchow heavy industry -its toast.

The AVG is growing already at Kewieng

tabpub accusses me off being a bully in china -and Im drawing enemy air to the theatre.

A task force spotted at new caledonia -must be a big one
B17s hit lautern -along with bostons
I have a convoy unloading 4th mixed reg -330 casos, 3 APs will be sunk

A picket ship of java is sunk by a sub -send another!

Area1
No new orders today -2nd division is repairing singapore nicely

Area2
The struggle to get troops ashore in timor
18th div loads its elements and sails

Area3
is quiet

area4
I send a single ak east from baker -just to see what we see

area5
the kB is reformed -and is at sea -headed to davao

I rest the sallies in china -low moral

intelligence -tabpub e mail really points to a October offensive
Thus, i have decided KB will enter the area due south of naru island last week of september -and strike his bases in his rear
i wish to disrupt his timetable -break up his carefully gathered forces, throw a spanner in the works -that sort of thing!

4/9/42

other than some sweeps in china for training, all quiet today

5/9/42
The plan of defence is simple -in idea

typically a player builds up a big base full of troops, then dispatches the invasion.
-and leaves that base relatively empty -especially if it is a second invasion.
I plan to try to capture that base, behind him.
can i do it -i do not know, but it might be worth a try

Initial attack will not be heavily fought, until i can muster max strength against it.
A lot of information is coming my way -subtle but vital

lots and lots of subs all of a sudden around lunga, and off Port Moresby
Some recon
ships at noumea -a lot of ships
B17 numbers darwin reduced

i will bet on a strike -simultanously at PM and lunga

I will deal with PM 1st - its the most dangerous
If timor is hit, that has to be 1st
regardless, all the sallies and helens from china are now enroute to PNG

Area1
unloading tanks at victoria point -at least 3 subs outside rangoon -will not force this
Withdrew helens south -as a reserve -rangoon could be naval bombarded -lots of mines though
Adaman island is boosted with recon

area2
More troops unloading Timor, some reserves enroute

area3
wewak is size 4 -I need malang that size too -its only a 2 at the moment
biak is size 4, so is holliandia, but I need more support for all the sallies enroute
4th div is repairing nicely -4 divisions in reserve -with ships available

Area4
the gilberts reamain a bluff -betties fly recon all over the place -a bluff

Area5
Tonies to the china front -tomorrow the tojos also debut

KB comes south to davao

I give it 2 weeks and this war is going to explode

Area1

High Command issues a new directive

Beware of being cut off with landings south of rangoon
Bring sufficient naval forces towards rangoon to counter any landing

In response, BB Kirishima ,4CL and 2 DD sail from Singapore, cannot place them at Vic point yet, as the place has been mined
heavy raids on Akyab again
Ordered all the troops there to pull out, and have dispatched a new formation to take there place
LRCAP for Akyab ordered for tomorrow
56 brigade is at moulimien, so feel south flank relatively secure.
2nd div in Singapore is repairing very well

Area2
High Command orders
Ensure sufficient troop lift at kendari
this is confirmed
troops continue to flow out of soerabaya to timor ect
large numbers of salies are passing through to PNG, may keep a few at kendari -they can reach timor OK .

Area3
High Command also requires enough troop lift at Truk.
This is confirmed .
4 divisions need a lot of ships
Will form and fuel transport convoys tomorrow
Sallies and helens are entering this area.
KB is still a long way away

A large amount of shipping again spied at espirito -and sub action is heating up, wewak especially -he probably got intelligence of the base troops enroute to there.

Area5
Convoys
Enemy subs on the route near tori shima -all available ASW assetts head that way!
In China the new fighterd debut
37 sonias,10 nate,9 tony hit changsa industry -5 hits
32 Tojo (exp only52) sweep at very high altitude , 18 I-16c intercept
lost 1 tojo, shot down 5, these are good chinese pilots, so i was very pleased, the tojo pilots got a good experience boost to

Zeros at various points -in little packets of 9 are training in china too
The trick is not to run into the AVG and have all this training effort shot down!

High command issues the following

After a successful phase of the war where all pre planned objectives have been secured, the empire must now consolidate its gains

Through frustration of plans, and by inflicting continous heavy defeats, we will bring the enemy to the negotiating table.
All commanders are to strive with every effort to fortify their defences, upon which the enmy will become entangled.
Once heavily engaged the Navy shall strike at the enemies weak points and supply lines, engaging in a series of timetable upsetting operations, frustrating his carefully structered plans.
Army troops are to fight as long as possible, yet local commanders are to stress that no men are to be thrown away in useless operations -units can always be rebuilt for fighting later on
The war has a long way to go, time is what we are buying

Long live the emporer

Area4
little to report

temperature in china begins to rise again

7/9/42
ASW action wewak -he gets away
ASW mallacca straight -he gets away --so many attacks, so few hits!!!

In China 31 Tojo,12 nate and 44 tony sweep, encounter 16 chinese bi planes -great training, no losses, 14 shot down

More training flights china
b17s miss at luatern from derby, a lot of b17s in northern Aust!
10 oscar,7 zero meet his raid over akyab today
16 buffalo,9 wellington,15 blenhiem,30 mitchells

interesting fight, watched very close, seemed that the oscars (real crack pilots) would damage a plane, then the zero would finish it off

8 buffalo,5 blenhiem,1mitchell and 1 wellington shot down, no losses
46 liberators,38 b17 then attacked, lost 2 oscars, 17 b17 damaged,1 lib shot down

All up 35 enemy destroyed today to 4

Area1
mandalaby grows to size 4 -this could be big trouble
Lots of Nates are enroute to put up CAP over rear areas -thanks MOG, did not know the AI looks at the 3 to 1 ratio before attacking thing

Area2
large air transfers continue, zeros to kendari -better range, oscars to Lae

area3
I need further base forces northern PNG -and malang is the point of concentration for building another size 4 field
I form large convoys at truk -on standby -and dispatch significant naval forces to rabual

Area4
Going to take some of the what I have decided will now be redundant forces from Entiwok to palua

Area5
BB yammato is enroute to hong kong
I despair getting BBs repaired, haruana- hit 4 months ago was 40 odd system, it is now 31, repairing about 1 point a fortnight -this sucks!
the 70 th div is growing slowly, 13 days until 71st can be bought.

In china, sending Tonies to peking, moving other ones -Im really playing the guess where I will hit next game
KB and KB2 will meet at palua -yamaguchi is detirmined to enter the seas south of naru island, and cause trouble.

ASW action Victoria point, twice, at least charges were dropped that turn
a couple of training flights in china -no combat

yenen has light CAP -but a lot of fighters there
he returns to Akyab, persistant buggar

Area1
No new orders, Alor star anchorage fills with a BB and escorts (Kirishima)
2nd div declared fit at singapore

Area2
More troops Timor, and kendari

Area3
No new orders

Area4
No new orders

Area5
Home waters, some concern about the kuriles -but I cannot do anything about them
All fit subs have sailed, my sub arm, missing for the last 3 months is refitted, and will be ready for the battle
In china tomorrow we city attack wunchow again -a new sally sq has joined and will be blooded, lots of low experience fighters will escort, i do not expect any opposition
The day after 60 odd tonies will sweep yenen, and see if his low CAP numbers of biplanes can provide more training!

tabpub keeps talking about October being the month, and wondering where he will be by December.
I expect 3 attacks all at once -I will look carefully, then choose just one and crush it.

A sub nails a AP south of Truk -poo
31 oscars,12 tony,21 sally hit resources at Wunchow -5 hits, we are slowly dismantling his industry in China, and I have remained 1 step ahead so far
6 B17 attack lautern
Lots of CAP over canton island all of a sudden
20 a/c CAP over yenen as well
B-26s hit Akyab -the daily training flight

Area1
the burma front is quiet -no new orders issued

area2
The DEI are settled, all the units except the 21st brigade are recovered.
Unloading a regiment at Dilli ,so far undetected
At kendari, 2 CL quick reaction TFs are in place
And 5 BBs are ordered to Ambonia -want them closer to the front
have ordered a fast transport run to tenibar island -where some engineers are starving

Area3
PNG and the solomons
Digging holes -some enemy ships way down south , but not much happening.

Area 4
the gilberts are quiet

Area5
The convoys are working flat out -at the moment not one base has over 3000 oil or resources waiting to be picked up -and so far I would say 95% of what is being carted is being delivered
yet, with palembang currently only producing 60 units - its not good enough!
total oil is down to 663543 -pretty poor indeed!
So I am doomed!!!!

The big thing will have to be repair palembang -but how -i do not have the time -or the supplies to do that.

In China tomorrow I order a big fighter sweep -at high altitude, over Yemen, planes involved are in the 60 exp range -so iether this will be a disaster (if the AVG is there), or a good training flight.

Finally I am increasingly of the mind that a spoiling attack will do more good than harm -thus as soon as KB forms up at Palua -it will come south to the solomons -and announce its prescence.

(a busy weekend)

10/9/42
Sub attack Truk area -miss
Lots of ships spotted at espirito
48 enemy fighters and 15 bombers attack from yemen -no hits -

We sweep back the other way -33 Tojo vs 20 I-16, lost 4, only shot down 3
Not a good debut
But then 80 Tony sweep -meet 17 I-16c , and shoot down the lot
better
B17 try to hit lautern
some zero training flights
Akyab hit again

Area1
nates begining to arrive in theatre as rear area CAP

Area2
No orders or action

Area3
8 RO class subs deploy from Shortlands -to form a patrol line south of Lunga

Area4
The gilberts remain quiet

Area5
Time to do a city attack again -the exp levels of the tonies lept up after that day, only a few more days of this and they can go to Burma -its almost a race against time.

Sub damages a AK in south chinasea -several other ASW actions
A Dave hits a sub at rabual
We bomb changsa -5 industry hits
I attempt a fast transport run to tenibar island -its a bust, 3 DDs are badly damaged by B17s working out of darwin -nasty things.
I will have to revert to transport planes.

Area 1
I need MSWs here! -they have a long way to come though

Area2
the tenibr effort was a disaster -more DDs have to come out of reserve

All other areas are pretty quiet -Chinese troops on the move south of wunchow -a recon?
I plan more evil with the tonies tomorrow

77 tonies sweep yenem -meet 29 I-15s, and lose 7 for 22, tony exp levels still not good enough
21 sallies, 28 tojos and some sonias and nates attack changsa -12 industry hits

I am annoying him in china I think

Area1
Enemy sub in rangoon harbour -cheeky sod
90 plus enemy fighters at mandalaby -soon the tonies will challenge them

Area2
Bit discouraged with the way the B17s hammered the DDs, we retire

Area3
Simply did a big stock take on the base sizes ect

Area4
Nothing new

Area5
KB is together, enroute for Truk
20! enemy unts enter the hex south of wunchow -I have lots of troops here though!

30 oscars strike the ground in china -training
training sonias in the dei
Wunchow now has enemy A/C -none in yenen

We strike weakly the chinese troops

large, very large numbers of enemy subs in the solomon island area, and around the coral sea
We attack in China -163000 troops to his 155 282
1870 casos to his 219 -but Tabpub E mails me that this hurt him bad (disruption?)

Area1
IT BEGINS!!!!
The enemy appear in the hex north of Akyab
We order TF177 to load some 35 brogade troops, they will fast transport run to this hex -a recon in force
Oscars and zeros will LRCAP it from rangoon
Singapore dispatches 6 subs to the area
BB Kirishima sails for adaman island area

Area2
Quiet
Area3
A big ASW effort begins

China and home
We are in battle now, but I wont be diverted from the task of smashing his cities

A big risk -2 CS will form a CV TF -well a pretend one, and swan about the kuriles
Chitose and Chiyoda -must be vert careful with these 2 potential carriers.

Well the enemy is on the move
I lose a big fat tanker off japan to a sub -ouch!
KB is attacked by another just off truk -only the escorts, so who knows if KB is plotted or not

And now the enemies intentions become clearer -a naval bombardment of Akyab by 2 R class BBs
Now I have only a scatterd remnant of a fraction of the 35th brigade here-Im convinced he thinks a full one is there

Area1
The enemy is attacking Akyab -expected -yet in what strength?
Worried how the naval bombardment got in undetected -choosing this week to upgrade to Emilies half the recon units probably did not help

TF177 is unloading in the hex to the north of Akyab -not attacked today -all his planes are on ground attack -as hoped!LRCAP intercepts several beufighters over it?.
4 enemy units spotted in this hex, so this transport mission will be a quick one for sure
His LBA hits Akyab heavily -liberators, b 26s ect ect
43 B17 also tried to shut down rangoon -24 oscar and 24 nate damage 12, only 6 hits

So , a big effort beginging here.
I need more naval strike -so some 50 plus lillies are enroute -veterens of soerabaya, these are experienced fellows.
The tonies in china begin too the long trek to this front, will be a week before i see them.
Will hold the division in Singapore in reserve, no need to panic yet.
BB kirishima will linger south of rangoon, must be careful with her -hate to meet the POW or repulse group with her, or even the malaya and warspite.
If she does do battle, it must be in range of my betties, so that they can get revenge.

Area2

released the Lillies to the burma front, i still have enough to cover what i need
BB mutsu and Nagato were visited by B17s today at Ambonia -17 zeros only shot down 1 of the 20 attackers
Again the b17s scored -2 hits on nagato -both defeated by her armour
We reire the BB fleet some 200 miles north.

Area3
Its a viscous ASW war now, he dodges too well today
The full KB refuels at truk, will sail tomorrow
18 submarines sail from truk

Their orders - to form 2 big packs, and to await the great battle that I feel is coming -and then to hunt the cripples.
Thus they will gather away from potential convoy routes, and approach routes for the moment

Area4
remains quiet, I recn south of tarwana -he lies doggo

Area5
The convoys continue, losing a full 16000 tonner of oil hurts
he attacks in China, only a bombardment, at the hex south of wunchow its 154000 vs 154000.

71st div in 6 days if things go well
No new A/C for 40 days though
a CVe in 4

Overall
The long anticipated counter moves begin.
But I must not be hasty -let him committ 1st
I will continue the plan of a "I get in 1st" spoiler attack by KB somewhere in the coral sea -all depends on the weather, how well his search planes do.

Burma could go quickly, 3 divisions are in reserve in the phillipines, will I need them in the DEI's???.
Time will tell.

Burma is getting busy.
tabpub strikes me as one who likes to be ORGANISED, everything in order, all his ducks in a row.
This makes it even more imperitive to throw a spanner in the works -and quick!

TF177 unloads at its beach -straight into the teeth of 16000 men.
But I know exactly how many now.
16000, akyab will fall, but its not a huge attack -not a terrible threat that will overwhelm the burma front
I will hold my nerve

The 2 R class return to Akyab, so do his LBA
I have dumped 800 men into the hex north of akyab, but I also proved I can do this, when he moves into akyab, I will do it again -hopefully cutting him off.
anything to annoy him
Lillies arrive in theatre, another day to get organised, 2 for 70 odd tonies to arrive
China is stalemated again -nice try -but no recon mate.

talking about recon, naval search
For 2 weeks now I have had a single AK swanning all around the islands at palmyra, and nearby -on a grand cooks tour.

And not spotted once
His naval search sucks

So does he expect an excursion there?
No
So -KB will sail to narua island , then crawl due east -until we hit something juicy.
Fun , fun, fun.

Area1

the minor allied offensive towards Akyab is given a free kick by ourselves.
The enemy shock attacks our recon force, and a tank regiment pursues our troops into the base -where very little remains to repel it.
1 division, 1 tank regiment and 3 base forces comprise this thrust.
Coming north to meet it will be a screen only of naval guard units.
Do not intend to fight until he reaches the river.
Losing Akyab (which is a real mess) will turn the air situation into his favour -but give us opportiunities as well.

Although I have a div in reserve in singapore, we will not commit anything yet.
2 lilly sqs move into rangoon, and 2 tony sqs also into rahaeng, and 12 tonies rangoon as well.
Bb hiei is almost ready to join her sister at sea.
A lot of the staff are talking about conducting a naval landing behind the enmy, we will consider it

Area2

The commander of area5 has agreed to release the Celebes, especially the forces at Kendari to this tactical control.
Timor is fairly secure, but can only be called that thanks to the 3 divs we have in reserve in the phillipines.
we are at high alert

Area3
only 1 week more of troop relocation and all preparations in the PNG and solomons will be complete.
We had a very encouraging sighting of ships in noumea today -and I am willing to convert this sighting into a possible CV location report.
KB continues south -now 300 miles south east of Truk

Area4
Forming a convoy at Kwalejien, to evac the last construction troops from Tarwana, and back to the markis islands
have definately decided not to waste resources holding the gilberts

Area5
Forming gradually larger and larger convoys
terribly dissapointed in ship repair rates
In China today 25 sbc attacked our troops south of wunchow, met by 24 tony rookies, who shot down 9 bombers -great training.
We bombed his industries again, and more planes are coming through the training program from the home islands

The war id heating up again.

We bombed Changsa again today, conducted a lot of training flights, and Rangoon got a nasty visit.

Area1
43 liberators,36 B17 attacked shipping in rangoon harbour -hitting a tanker very badly
Only 18 nate, and some oscars opposed, shooting down 3, losing 3 nates and 2 oscars
His tanks bombarded in akyab -it will fall tomorrow now that he sees what is not there
Lots of Tonies move to rangoon for tomorrow, we will LRCAP Akyab for the inevitable I will bomb then shock attack tomorrow.
BB Kirishima is retiring to Singapore, to pick up the Hiei

Area2
All preparations are complete

Area3
all preparations are complete
KB continues south, aiming directly for the gap between naru island and Lunga

Area4
All preparations are complete

Area5
Shuffled tomorrows air raids.
It really appears he is not going to challenge -or cannot yet challenge my air power here.

a very big day -and all the action was in the Burma area, so reports from here only today.

2 asw actions off rangoon again -and still no hits!!!
sent out another pickett pg -and it was promptly sunk by a sub

26 zeros, 4 tony escorted 19 betty and 19 helen on a naval strike to akyab -met 7 P39 and 9 buffalo (still at this late stage?)
these are low experience zeros too -we shoot down 6 buff, 3 P 39, losing 3zeros in the process
6 betties and 2 helens are lost pressing the attack
BB malaya is hit by a dud, BB warspite 2 torpedoes

the second wave was 21 tony, 17 zero,15 oscars 9 betty and 69 lillies
A little CAP is brushed aside.
the betties torpedo warspite 2 more times
The lillies are a disaster -at 100 feet they score 1 bomb hit on a CL that does no damage -and 59 are damaged

Several more 'remnant" attacks go in, for inconclusive results

he attacks and takes Akyab
losses all up today, 28 to 34, i cannot wear this too long!

Orders are sent -the lillies will need a month to repair in rear areas
Tojos fly in from china
Some replacement betties arrive, and we CAP tomorrow.

there is a high level conference
Burma is vital -do we put the army in manila on standby?
The Navy would be needed big time if we re invade Akyab

Navy tells army -get troops there, we will send KB only if current op is successful and buys us enough time.

Area1
The airforce is put to CAP -although some planes are still on s/by for a naval strike
the sq commander of the TOJOs is eager to try his men out -permission is given for a very high sweep over mandalaby

Area2
A snlf is dipatched to sabang -a size 4 A/F which we consider is a bit too vulnerable

Area3
the solomons continue routine ASW patrols
getting barges set up now
Upgrading to emilies
KB is still sliding south undetected -a hard target is decided upon -we will hit noumea

Area4
No new orders

Area5
2 ASW actions today -both missed.
repairs on Hyuga and yammato continue

China -where is the air force of the enemy.

Northern command is re activated -it now has 1cve,2cs,4 dd and 5 subs at sea -80 plus zeros in japan as a reserve against a raid by his CVs

Only good news today is that the SYDNEY SWANS - win the AFL grand final

2nd div is enroute to burma -and we order 2 more in manilla to load up -the 5th and 38th
terrible day in the air - the tojos sweep mandalaby -35 escorting 23 sallies -they meet 30 spits, 20 hurries 8 p40e -all this at 31000 ft
only 4 tojo return, 4 sally lost
8 enemy fell

6 liberators attack rangoon though -all shot down.
warspite sinks

I go away and get back to the footy...

OK, here is the hard part of playing japan
You plot the air attacks noting carefully that no enemy plane symbols are on any field.
recon shows no planes over the target for days
No resistance for days

so you plot an attack.........
49 un escorted sallies attack changsa -and the AVG magically appears!
OUCH!!!!
lost 19 bombers to that little trick today

Area1
I was trying to land troops 2 hexes north of Akyab today -the TF commander reports enemy troops ashore their -we abort the mission -can he get away now?

Otherwise the war slumbers on -he appears to be putting a big convoy into akyab -i try to hit it, instead 3 betties attack the hermes in India -they miss.

I am now very carefully creeping KB towards noumea -this is going to be tricky.
45 ships at least in the harbour there......

OK, its only one more week until the month of October, and tabpub has been promising his offensive for October for ages now.
My attempt to pre empt him is being very cautious.
He writes that I have been very quiet and he needs to poke me with a sharp stick.

I think he is still a little wary after the Baker battles.
For myself, its be patient.
Until the P38s arrive he cannot really get at me in the pacific, as they should now be doing that I believe he will open up with a bombing campaign against PM, Timor and GG.
I wont resist.
I will save my air until he arrives.
My thinking is, whether I resist or not, no matter how many troops i put into these places, they will be pounded so badly, and he will bring so many, that the initial battle must be lost by me.
(if its not, he's cocked up)
So, its the counter where I will need max forces.
Im hoping he will bring a division to the 1st attack, in the pacific I have 4 to bring
In the DEI its a bit more of a worry, only 1 and a half can immediately counter attack, now that Burma is sucking some troops.

I bought 2 divs from china -both "no replacements" recent arrivals, they are now agonisingly slowly filling out. I hope to have them available by Christmas.
In the meatime all political points will be spent on buying eng regiments and the like.

The immediate grand fantasy would be to inflict a good hit using KB in the pacific this month, and being able to counter attack Akyab next using KB as the key to the place
But I think this is fantasy - KB will probably just have to stay in the east.
For a war winning victory now I must kill CVs -and they will only come out for an invasion.

Today many many ships in Akyab -and rangoon is clouded in
I recon Noumea -only a light CAP -poor Emilies take a hit today
Efate, lunganville and suva are all looked at too.

Area1 (Burma, Malaya, thialand)
I might try again to land troops north of Akyab -recon now shows no troops there, or only HQ troops
(HQ troops a couple of days ago when i tried to land, today recon planes will not fly to that hex -is that a sign its empty?)
2nd div is making the run into rangoon -have CAP organised, a 6 ship ASW escort, and 2 battle cruisers with it.
A vital,vital convoy.
2 nd div will march north and with the tanks available try to contest Akyab

Area2
Sumutra/java/celebes
Shock, horror, soerabaya actually dispatches some supplies to somewhere.
Palembang is up to the high 70's oil -pathetic ain't it.
Timor is getting some supplies today

Area3
Solomons and PNG
Moving 56th div to rabual -the rapid reaction force
KB stops to refuel -she has been spotted south of naru -now I have to pause, what to do????
I dispatch 4 DD south from Munda -they plus a AK and PG which is coming south is another "here we come" ruse

Area4 -the gilberts/siapan and outer islands.
remain very quiet, i look at them with regret, thinking how many other players have fought so hard over them.
I am gambling heavily here -I still think he will try solomons or PNG 1st, its all or nothing.
If I guess wrong, well i can afford to lose the gilberts, but not the bottom of the ladder yet.

Area5 Home waters, phillipines, borneo.
1CVE,2CS and 4 DDs are enroute to the Kuriles, more of a recon than anything
The 2 CS are very precious - so this will have to be a very careful op.

Area6 -china -was very quiet today -Im licking my wounds

KB refuels under clouds -and is well and truly spotted -buggar -what to do?
AK sunk by sub near legaspi
Tanker hit by sub returning from rangoon -ouch -a 16000 tonner -she might make it though.
3 seperate ASW actions -pathetic, Im getting no return at all for all this effort of out guessing him
Rangoon remained couded in
I have ordered Minelayers down to the DEI now

4 DD race towards Lunganville to drop a welcome.

Mines in parishimio (or whatever) score a DD
Sub attack of Victoria point -miss
rangoon clouded in -again

lots of enemy subs off port moresby
training flights in China
Mitchells attack troops south of Akyab
One of our subs damaged off akyab by air attack

KB ordered to refuel and move slowly west into the coral sea proper
Deliberate attack south of wunchow -ouch.
6770 casos to his 1100.

that hurt.

ASW action of tokyo -miss
4 dd sweep into lunganville port, meet 3 PT boats
Was very surprised when one of my DDs WAS NOT torpedoed.
A few shots flung each way, engagement broken off
The Dds then flung a few shells at the airfield and appear to have gotten clear away with it.

Off Burma i-162 survives a ASW action
rangoon was open, but nothing flew
Lots and lots of ships in Akyab harbour
He recons kai island north of darwin
KB slides very slowly west south of Ndini island, unspotted that turn

Orders in Burma
Its obvious my bombers did not fly due to a very heavy CAP over Akyab
So every fighter I have switches to escort -can I get a strike in.
3 pt boats of his have crept down to the corner, 2nd div is told to mark time, her escort goes to max react, and the lillies return -100ft naval attack.
the fast transport of 3cl and 3 dd loaded up will again try to unload troops 2 hexes north of akyab, see what happens
2 more divisions are almost to brunie, they will be the counter attack.

I wish tabpub would do something in the pacific!!!!

Lots of transports going to the gilberts, many of the troops are going to be pulled back to saipan, marcus and the inner circle..

way up in the kuriles I order a airstrike of the CVE against kiska -this is risky!

A survey of the fleet reveals 13 DD require upgrade -them and 2 BB and 2 CV
So we begin shuffling some DDs -it will take a while

One of my subs dodges a ASW group of northern burma
i lose a AK near manilla
OK, his PTs are being used as a pickett south of akyab
Liberators hit south of akyab

He bombs timor -lightly
A nasty shock, the AVG re appears over china -we lose 7 sonias, 8 nates

Lillies strafe pt boats south of Akyab -a bust really
we sink a enemy AK of Akyab
I pull my hair out about rangoon -just cannot get a attack to fly

Area1TF 177 -will attempt to unload on the hex 120 miles north of Akyab a supply blocking unit
2nd division must get into rangoon!

Elswhere all is quiet - we wait !
