Status: offline 		I've mastered WITP, Victoria, Hearts of Iron 2 et al......yet this game
eludes me. I simply can't figure out what's going on and why. Yes
I've read, re-read and studied the manual. What the devil is it about
this game that is giving me such problems? Am I going insane?

I'm relatively new to this game too, but I can't understand where exactly your problem lies as I have been able to learn most of its functions just by trying. Ok, there are some features that are visible only at second glance, but if you follow the posts in this forum, you'll find them too.
Maybe you should try some rounds with every single expert turned on - or just leave one option for yourself to do manually - and then watch what the AI does for you. IMHO the AI in this game is very good, so you could learn some basic moves and then turn the experts off again and enjoy.

Yes, if you are trying to decipher the nuts and bolts, you will go insane. The info that is display is often contradictory and inaccurate. Some of that is a result of black box calculations that are not completely explained and some are bugs in the current version.

I used to try and backtrack all the numbers and what effected what and I ended up giving up in frustration. Even testers who have been around for a LONG time still dont know how some of the things are calculated.

Now when I play, I just play and ignore the nuts and bolts. I make decision based on 'feel' rather than facts. Its not my preferred way to operate, but it can still be fun. I cant imagine trying to play MP in this fashion though...that would just be too frustrating to me.

The upcoming patches are supposed to be reworking the data reporting a bit to correct some of the inaccuracies and once the econ changes are finalized, an economic 'white paper' is due to be released. Currently the Waste rules are being overhauled which is obviously causing ripple effects in the econ that have to be ironed out.

So again, dont try and read too deep into the data. You probably wont be able to truly hash it out anyways, so just play it according to what think sounds like a solid strategy and see how it goes. It will seriously cut down on the frustration factor. I'm hoping the patches will allow the player to actually be able to break down the econ and see what is going on under the hood. I'm just not sure if the the engine is well suited to that or not. Here's hoping!

Sorryfor the earlier comments just couldn't resist. Best way to learn is get involved in a Pbem game. I am in a great game turning out a turn almost every other day. You get to see what other players do and believe me you will pick things up very quickly in response.

Status: offline 		The thread I started is called "How do you play". I'm not smart enough to imbed the link here to go to it, but I should be easy to find.

I had similar struggles with the learning curve, and am still only part way up, but I found several of the forum members "over 15 years old" and received some generous advice and answers. Perhaps you have some of the same questions. Try to be specific with your frusterations (in question form) and I find there are some good answers.
