Can someone point me to a web site or describe briefly the primary differences between SPWaW (8.4) and SPWW2 ?

I can see by some of the screen shots at the CamoWorkshop the interface for SPWW2 and WinSP-MBT look very similar. I'm trying out WinSPMBT and it seems to run slow on the same machine I run SPWaW-8.4.

But, back to the question ... can someone help me with the differences in these two similar games?

thanks

Hank

You will probably have to search some forums for more detailed answers. I recall seeing it discussed several times here and over at SZO. Probably at the SPWAW Depot as well.

WAW went with a windows based program with a completely redesigned ballistics routine (along with revised Infantry/squad weapons adjustments in later versions)

the above though only scratches the surface of the changes. (its at 8.x now after all)

WW2, until the upcoming WinSP release they are planning, retained the DOS resident SP engine and was primarily OOB driven. Biggest difference is that it still uses the armor factor ballistics system seen in SP though it too has been improved and tweaked.

Which you prefer depends on what features you value most. Both games offer much to the grog and casual player both.

Myself, i prefer WaW because of the ballistics changes but one thing i do covet from WW2 is their larger map sizes and massivly detailed terrain system. Got both on my drive but its WAW i usually play.

Recently downloaded and installed WinSPMBT. Great upgrade to the SP-II version of the series.

WAW has many good features which WW2 doesnt, such as the option to confirm op fire, mellee/overun, Command Control and a better ballistics system. However I'm a big fan of the changes that WinMBT has implemented. Loading weapons costs movement points (as it should), you can drive an 88 all over the map in WAW loading and unloading as you please with no time constraints. Also unloading near an enemy will draw fire in MBT (as it should) and finally you can area fire through smoke in MBT/WW2, Its some ridiculous force field in WAW. Transported troops also take casualties in MBT which was the only real improvement implemented for WAW in 8.4. I'd be very happy if WAW would catch up too MBT in these aspects but I get the feeling I'll be dead by then

Thanks for the help.

The one peeve I have with WinSP-MBT is that it runs slower than WaW. Is WW2's speed about the same as MBT?

I like WaW quite a bit.

But I'm always looking for a new experience.

Depends on your system. When running under XP, I have mouse speed issues whenever using the DOS resident version of WW2 and MBT. (Win98 boot up clears up the issue) WinSPMBT runs fine all around. Some of the combat animations are a bit staccato but clicking and moving units around work fine.
