I just bought and installed ATI X800 into my PC after I got a rude message stating my previous video card was old and useless after installing a demo of Age of Empires III.

I bought the card in anticipation of a lot of cool games coming out shortly, but I must say, it has remarkably improved my WiTP experience. Screen scrolls quickly, no delays after I click different locations in map.

ATI is the way to go with WITP. Scrolling is much quicker.

Wow, buying a new PC. That's dedication. I Think the video card alone would have helped but more power to you. I'm waiting for Vista to come out before I get a new box.

Gotta get a new laptop. 256mb RAM and just the 16mb GPU integrated to the MB is more than a little slow.

Would going with the x800 speed WITP up any faster than a 256mb GPU that is not up to the top line standards? Also, would 2mb RAM run it any faster than 1mb RAM?

I'm assuming you are running XP. I'm not a tech guru but I would think the biggest bang for your buck would be to go to 512MB of RAM. A couple of years ago, I bought a PC with 256MB of RAM and it was a pig. I added another 256MB of RAM and it was fine.

the x800 is only for PC's with either AGP of PCIe slot. I am not very familiar with notebook video cards.

I'm running XP 2400+ with 512 mb and an added-on PCI video card (Radeon 64 mb) to replace the lame S3 Twister integrated video. I've found that reducing the color display to 16 bit (medium) and downgrading video acceleration to the point where directdraw and direct 3D acceleration are disabled speeds up the game and also seems to completely solve any CTD problems. The quality of the video display for the game does not appear to be noticeably affected. I stumbled into the video acceleration detuning while trying to get the video display for HOI II straightened out. If I play a 3D game, I can quickly reinitiate the video acceleration.
