Hello all. I am new to WITP, and at the beginning i have one question. How can i get my aircraft group to full numbers? I am playing scenario "Southern Pacific" or sth., and in Australia i have a group of 19 B-17 bombers. I can also see that in this group i can get 48 bombers of this type. So what do i have to do to make my squadrons full? Thank you.

P.S. Sory for my language, i'm from Poland and my English isn't good enough yet....

It will gradually fill out by itself, drawing aircraft from the aircraft pool, until it's at full strength. This presupposes that "Allow Replacements" is on; look for this immediately below the aircraft picture in the air group report.

And you have no problems with your English.

You have to set "reinforcements" to "on" for your aircraft units. It is best to do each unit individually so that you can be selective. You must also have supply points in the base where you have the air unit. Finally, you must have replacement aircraft in the replacement pool.

Good luck -

Thanx How long (in game time of course) will it take to get all aircrafts to group? They are to be shipped from somewhere or something? Or are they going to just appear in my squadron from nowhere?

Depends on how many aircraft you have in the pool, how many air groups use that particular type, whether they have "Allow Replacements" on or off... You get the idea. And yes, the planes just magically poof into existence at the air group.

Doesn't the unit have to be within transfer range of the HQ to which the airfield where the unit is based, is attached?

IE, if you have a B25C unit at Port Moresby, which base is attached to Australia Command, then in order to receive replacements Australia Command HQ needs to be at a base that is within B25C transfer range of Port Moresby (and have at least 20000 supplies). Otherwise, a sub unit of that B25C squadron will appear at the base which holds Australia Command HQ - and will have to be manually transferred by the player in stages (say from Melbourne to Charter Towers and the next day to Port Moresby).

My apologies if this is not very coherently presented. It's relatively early for me (up late celebrating the Dawg's victory...).

It doesnt have to be Australia command HQ. Just any command HQ. And B-24 transfer range is a long distance

I think base Headquarters matters. My P-39's at Port Morsby belong to SW Pac and it is located in Brisbane, yet I get replacement aircraft in Sydney with Australia Command Hqs. Port Morsby belongs to Australia Command.

It's an OR function.

a) You have to be in range of the HQ of the base (not the a/c) and that HQ has to be in a base with at least 20,000 supply

OR

b) The base you are located in has to have over 20,000 supply

The aircraft will appear immediately in case b or if you are within transfer range of the a/c in question for case a.

The sub-unit chasing the unit applies to carrier a/c and to short range a/c. Since the HQ range is only 8 hexes, most a/c can make the jump immedately so that it looks like they just appear.

EDIT: and YOU apologized for YOUR coherent presentation You are a paragon of lucidity in comparison to me

I disagree with this also. My aircraft in Port Morsby recieve replacements in Sydney, well out of HQs range and in the case of the aircraft arriving there well out of Transfer range. Some times the base has over 20k sometimes it doesnt. Havent paid attention to what the supply was on the turns the replacement aircraft arrived.

Early in the war it was Wirraway, now it is P-39 and Kittyhawk, and when I rotate the 39's out it will be P-40's.

The american aircraft are assigned to SW Pac the base is Australia command. Base matters, I agree, supply level matters, I agree, the replacement aircraft DO NOT appear in the base though, every one for Port Morsby has appeared in Sydney. I have had to manually rebase them to Port Morsby.

Just move a command HQ, any command HQ to within whatever the air transfer range of whatever plane you are basing there and the replacements WILL magicially appear there. Believe it or not.

I dont think so. SW Pacific is a lot closer to Port Morsby, using your logic, how come my planes dont arrive at Brisbane? And of course if the HQs drawing the replacemtn aircraft is in transfer range of that type of aircraft, they will appear in the unit. But this has nothing to do with whether they were replacements because the base called them, or the HQs called them.

Dont think. Move a command HQ to within air tansfer range THEN if it doesnt work, say so.

I believe there is some kind of minimum supply test as well, but I refuse to read the rules out of principle.

Incantations in ancient Sumerian to the Sumerian God of fertility seem to work well too, but you will have to find those yourself.

Has anyone confirmed this yet. I recall having this problem as well. I did have a SWPAC HQ at Port Morseby. Some aircraft with limited range did arrive in Sydney. My supply levels went up and down, but were for the most part abouve 20,000.

Based on that it would appear that the command the air squadrons are attached to does matter. But I have been known to be wrong on occasion.

Based on your questions, sounds like you haven't quite got a handle on the aircraft replacement schedule screen yet. If not, that is the place to start. All replacements are drawn from a pool listed there and that pool is replinished by production and replacement. It is VERY important to get to know this screen as different aircraft have very different replacement rates and what air battles you choose to fight should be determined by your ability to provide replacements. Good luck.

For the most part? The times it was below 20k is when you got the replacements at Austraila command. Want proof?

Note aircraft levels in airgroups and the pool, and the supply level every turn until planes appear in Sydney. Then, if you have a command HQ within air transfer range AND the supply level at the command HQ is above 20k, send the save to Mike Wood because it is indeed a bug. But Mike wont be getting a save from you because it works.

Here's the deal:

1: Does the base that the aircraft are located at have 20,000 or more supplies? If yes, then replacements show up automatically at the base. If no, then go to 2

2: What HQ is the BASE assigned to (the base that houses the air group in question)? Go to that HQ (ie, Australia HQ if Port Moresby is assigned to Australia). Does the base that the HQ is located at have 20,000 supply? If yes, then go to 3 then air replacements are created here for the airgroup in question. If no, then no replacements are made.

3: Is the range of the HQ to the air group within normal transfer range of the plane type that is getting replacements? If yes, then the replacements show up in the base where the airgroup is located. If no, then the replacements show up in the base where the HQ is located in their own sub group.

That's how it works. You can have a north pacific squadron located at Port Moresby (which is Australia HQ), then if the Australia HQ LCU is located at Perth, replacements will show up in Perth, assuming PM has less than 20k supplies and Perth has more than 20k supplies. It's the HQ of the BASE that matters.

No one claimed that this was a bug, just trying to sort out what variables are supposed to do what. As to sitting around running turns just to see if the game works the way it should is what software QA people are for, I have other things I would like to do with my time.
