Vassal is updated today from v2.05 to v2.1. So, gonna give it the once over to see what kinda of new tweaks can add to the mod using this new version.

Bill

Oh...BTW: What do you guys see as scenario specific counters that were not included in the boxed game? The mod will have some "Victory Hex" counters, "Fire" (as in flames) counter, a hot button to identify US Airborne Half-Squads as "Pathfinders". Working on a P-51 Mustang now. Any others you guys can think of? "Eureka Unit" counter for example.

How long before it's ready for us? Just a rough guess would be great. Thanks!

Well....I just loaded the mod up with the new Vassal version, and some really KEY features now do not work!!!!! I would have answered you question by saying "sometime next week", but if I must re-edit the whole thing to make it work with v2.1, I don't know. Hopefully it is just a glich with the new version and a little update will make all of these things work again. I'm close to tears thinking how much work it would be to go back and change everything..........................

Yeah! Tell me about it. At first glance, it looks like Vassal has changed the way some features need to be structured. So I think my worst fears may come to pass.....go through the whole thing step by step and convert it to this new way.

Sigh.............................

Bill

BTW: But...it is early yet. Usually it takes a week or two to flush out any new problems with a new version of Vassal. Maybe Rodney and his team will have a quick fix tomorrow....maybe not.

Just wondering how badly that change ended up throwing in the monkey wrench?

Actually, Rodney came through HUGE for me. Released a v2.1.1 of Vassal that corrected all the problems that v2.0 caused!!!!!!! So we are back on track. I think the mod is done, but I haven't heard much from the testers yet. So not sure if there is anything needing correcting....

In the meantime, been playing around:

So the mod should be done soon. I will defer to Mark on this, but I would rather put it up for download and THEN write a little "Help".doc, rather than waiting for that .doc to be finished (which I haven't even started yet). Most of you guys who are familiar with Vassal will have no problems with it and will be able to jump write in.

We shall see.

VASSAL Mod... soon. I'm looking over the latest revision. Matrix and Locknloadgame.com will host the mod.

Best,

Mark

A screen from the soon-to-be-released VASSAL mod. Yeah, that's a Volksgrenadier.

Yeah, but it has spawned a HUGE VG debate over at Consimworld. My cut? Volksgrenadiers were not very good troops. What do you all think?

Best,

Mark

Volksgrenadier divisions were a mixed bag-usually regular units reconstituted with the 1944 troop call up (and you can imagine what that might consist of after 5 years of war). The counters seem fine as they are. The leadership should be the same as Heer to represent the division based upon a an experienced core of regular troops.

NOT to be confused with Volkssturm-

After seeing the cool screenshot of the Vassal mod I told my wife we had to cancel our weekend plans because the boss asked me to take care of an important project ASAP.... any chance I'm going to be able to work on the "important project" this weekend? Thanks!

Nice. I haven't done any of the values on these guys yet, you might have to give me a tutorial on how you got that to look so finished.

That old geezer is a Volkssturm, though-Berlin '45 or after the Allies crossed into Germany proper in the west. I don't know how that would be rated in terms of morale-"3" maybe!?!
