There have been some terrific user made scenarios for ACoW-particularly Napoleonic and ACW. I would love to see these OOB's included in the Matrix release. Matrix Games Edition-"Two Centuries of Warfare".

Hi!

Indeed, it would be sooo good to have the 19th century mod units and weapons incorporated into a new edition.

If nothing else, just have these "jewels" available for XP is tremendous news!

Well, when Talonsoft was acquired by Take 2, any further development was curtailed. T2 had little to no interest in the small wargame niche they suddenly had on their hands. They were only concerned with the more mainstream titles. It must be said, however, that after refusing to sell the code to Norm, and refusing to allow additional work to be done on the game itself (in the form of free paches from Norm), they did finally relent, and allow the 1.06 patch to be released. (Too bad this was fatally flawed due to an armor penetration bug).

It must also be said that in T2's defence, there was a reason for this hesitation - new patches would not be 'wrapped'; in other words, there would be no copy protection on the .exe's, so this was of course a concern. (T2 was still selling copies of TOAW CoW at a decent rate at this time).

Well, it is these kinds of companies who refuse to support a product that turn me off for good. Hasbro is one of the biggest examples.

I wonder whether it would not be better for Matrix to spawn a “Son of TOAW” specifically designed for IX Century and the tactical level of combat. Might be called “The Tactical Art of War” TTAW.

Such a game engine would be based on the TOAW engine but would be optimized for scales of 10 meters to 1000 meters, unit sizes of team, fire team, squad, section, platoon and company, and time scales of 15 minutes to 6 hours.

Wouldn’t you just love to see a TOAW like scenario of Gettysburg at the 25 meter scale, company size units and 60 minute turns . . . especially if it was WEGO !!

Well, maybe some day in the future. Or, maybe Larry can do something . . .

You have something approaching these criteria with the Campaign Series - which rights have also been acquired by Matrix.

count me in to help put 19th century scnearios in. I think the 19th century equipment (not many types anyway, have to be put in, so that scenarios encompassing the 18th century and 19th century can be modeled quite easily! I have quite a few napoleonic scens half way done (Austerlitz, Jena, etc.) that I would like to finish for the new version...

Larry Harris is the designer and developer of all the Axis and Allies games and some older MB titles. Eagle Games just released a Larry Harris game called Empire. Really great stuff.

I'm not one for badmouthing a product, but I have to say that the AI in A&A was without a single doubt the worst I have ever seen. (Multiplayer was good though - if they worked the crash/freeze bugs out after the first few patches). I can share an insane war story with you guys that proves my point if anyone is interested...

Playing as Germans. Noticed that E.USA (The US capital, no less) was empty. So I put a transport off the west coast of France. Next turn, the capital was still empty, so I boarded two infantry, and cruised over to E. USA. Observed 6 infantry, an armor and a couple of fighters in W. USA. So, I only drop one of the infantry into E. USA, taking all the US money. On the American turn, not only do the Yankees not attack me, they board transports in the Pacific, and head off and attack the Japs.

Unreal.

You want to know what is more unreal? Look at the included interview on the CD. There is Larry Harris with a big huge grin facing the camera, talking about how smart the AI is, and how the average player is going to get their ass kicked by it.

I can't. My copy of the game was on Ebay before the CD Drive had spun down from installing it. (Bought it for solo play).

Did it say at the bottom of the manual "Thanks to all the kind folks at Larry's Lobotomy Labs for their extensive playtesting efforts"?

Yup, they spent a whole page of the manual just to state how well the quality control (beta testing) was... I still don't understand that one either. One theory is that Larry was smoking the crack-pipe too much during the development, and the coders breathed in a few too many fumes along with the rest of management.
