Well things got abit interesting in the Solomons,a pesky sub finally ran afoul one of my more experienced ASW TF's

ASW attack at 62,90

Japanese Ships
DD Sawakaze
DD Kamikaze
DD Uzuki

Allied Ships
SS Perch, hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
*****The sub sank after the attack.........

I also took BUNA in NG today, again unopposed. I think he's simply taken this Fall back strategy to an exteme and pulled back to Australia.

Ground combat at Buna

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 209 troops, 1 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Buna base !!!

I had another run at that Brit CV force, what a disaster!

Day Air attack on TF at 10,60

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 6
G4M1 Betty x 18

Allied aircraft
Fulmar x 49

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 1 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 12 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Fulmar: 7 damaged

DEI is going to be taken care of within the week. my forces should be strong enough to make their move before June ends.

China:
The weather really sucked again and my main Bomber force was once again grounded, but so was the RAf so it was a draw.
My Zeros did make another sweep of Sian again:

Day Air attack on Sian , at 47,29

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 27

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 20

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 4 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mohawk IV: 9 destroyed, 1 damaged

****To bad i couldn't hit him again with my bombers escorts!

I also plugged away again with Bombardment at Homan:

Ground combat at Homan

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 4788 troops, 153 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 114176 troops, 482 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
208 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

On my Far Eastern perimeter i extended my outpost line by capturing Baker Island. I'm going to put Flyingboats there ASAP and get some fighters in there as well! Time to dig like hell and I have a Minelayer set to dump mines in 3 days.
Ground combat at Baker Island

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1591 troops, 10 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 50 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Baker Island base !!!

******Just incase he's forward based his CV's at PH i'm going to be careful here till I can get search and a Zero group in here. I have also erected a sub picket line and we shall see what transpires.

I also have a BB bombardment squadron on the way to shell Soerabaja. I have the escorts on do not bombard so the fleet, some 6 BB's,keeps their distance and dumps the BIG GUNS on them!

Ever since i landed on Baker Island Dave has reacted quite strongly against me. Its only been some 14-16 days ago but i'm still amazed at his turnaround. For the entire game up to now he's been very defensive minded and avoided virtually any major encounter. Staying holedup in his defensive bastions of manila,Singapore and now Soerabaja.
Starting in May and moving through June dave has gotten abit more aggressive....good. I want him "feeling his oats" and sticking it too me. I need to drawout his carriers and fleet but not in his landbased-air playground.
Baker Island might just be a place where i can pull a nice defensive/offense off. He wants me out of Baker or he'd be continuing his refusal to engage. Battle at Baker buys me time, time to finnishoff Soerabaja and the DEI. It also buys me time till August when my expanded Tojo and Tony production will come into play!
Today at Baker:

Naval bombardment of Baker Island, at 94,92

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
DD Clark
DD Balch
DD Phelps
DD Selfridge
DD Porter
CA Pensacola
CA Chicago
CA Louisville
CA Chester
BB North Carolina

Japanese ground losses:
481 casualties reported
Guns lost 14

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 8
Port supply hits 5

****He is getting brave here, can a landing be faroff? I have a subscreen that might, might get lucky next turn and get a shot at something big.
My boys on Baker haven't had time to digin deep yet. If he wants it that badly, now is when he can buy it cheap!

On the high seas one of my sealane clearance patrols ran into a nasty U.S sub lurking;

Sub attack at 66,78

Japanese Ships
DD Uzuki
DD Sawakaze
DD Kamikaze

Allied Ships
SS Sturgeon, hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

***I'll have to check and see if she sank last turn......i had probably missed any message.

In the DEI we have:

Ground combat at Soerabaja

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 85219 troops, 990 guns, 7 vehicles

Defending force 51227 troops, 326 guns, 44 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
163 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

****NOT bad,no airattacks flew due to weather.......I need more airbase supply and Port supply hits! My reinforcements are making their way from kragen toward soerabaja now, some 3 -4 more days to be positioned and rested.

ON to Timor:

Naval bombardment of Dili, at 31,77

Japanese Ships
DD Suzukaze
DD Umikaze
DD Yamakaze
DD Samidare
DD Murasame
DD Yukikaze
CA Furutaka
CA Kinugasa
CA Haguro

Allied ground losses:
71 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 13
Port hits 1

***This is nice to see however I really need to hit those dutchmen harder and dropin some fresh troops!

In CHINA:

Ground combat at Homan

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 5530 troops, 176 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 106628 troops, 329 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
368 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

****Good,I need to bleed these boys somemore and i have another Infantry Brigade and Inf division on the way to bolster my attack.

Ground combat at Hengchow

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 2856 troops, 99 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 113310 troops, 607 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
135 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

****I like this as well, seems i might actually be hurting him by going after his supply! I'll hit him somemore before launching another deliberate attack.

And in the North of china........

Ground combat at Kungchang

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 654 troops, 21 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 127781 troops, 811 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
36 casualties reported

I'm just holding him inplace here.......

Where are those bombers coming from? I think that should be your next target. Otherwise, it's only going to get worse and worse. In my PBEM game, every Japanese base in LBA range gets clobbered for months until I can't use it anymore. I took Canton before Baker just to prevent this type of harassment. You can put up with it for now, but it gets pretty unpleasant in a couple more months, trust me...

Just a suggestion.

I fully agree that Canton is a problem. And it was in my mission plan to aquire it,however taking baker to give me a fighter field in range of canton was also part of my plan.
Remember up untill the past 3 weeks or so my learned opponent has been prettymuch AWOL except in his set defensive works. I'm abit surprised he's fighting so hard over Baker. Far from being a problem i'm looking at this as an opportunity to fight an action.
Also Tojo's and tony's are getting close and they give me a better chance to dance with his hvys and have the IJA contribute to the airwar. Right now my zero's are prettymuch carrying all the water.

Tonys will take out heavies - that's for sure. But you'll then need the Tojos also to handle the P-38 escorts that are sure to follow. The escallation is one you cannot win. Once your planes start getting better, his will too (only more so).
I still haven't found a solution to the Corsair. Those things are made out of Kryptonite!

Agreed, however currently my Oscars are sharkbait and no real threat except to the pilots i have flying them. I need a positive contribution from my IJA pilots. Also China will be a longway down the pike on P38 deployments.
Its only July 42' at the moment.....KB is untouched and has excellent pilots/flightcrew. Things are by no means out of control yet and people always make mistakes.

Not even all my avaliable fighters were in the air and we bled the unescorted bombers quite well. These losses and damagings have to be having an effect on his moral. Also these big raids are draining his supply.

Operations for the 9th of July 42'

I've staked alot on the idea of starving him of supplies in combat areas. I've done it PI,Singapore with success! i'm working on Soerabaja and Chinese Hengchow&Homan now. Is my strategy really viable? The end of this month will tell......

China.......

Day Air attack on Hengchow , at 45,37

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 18
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 27
Ki-21 Sally x 78

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 12

And.........

Day Air attack on Hengchow , at 45,37

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 24
Ki-49 Helen x 21

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49 Helen: 1 damaged

Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 11

Also in my ongoing Fighter-sweep campaign:

Day Air attack on Kweilin , at 44,38

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 14

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mohawk IV: 5 destroyed, 2 damaged

I need to kill his planes, damage his bases and hit his supply directly! Then get him to mount more bombing attacks on me......all "burn" supply!

On the ground in china

Ground combat at Homan

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 5473 troops, 173 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 105056 troops, 317 guns, 0 vehicles

60 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Then..........

Ground combat at Kungchang

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 688 troops, 22 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 128718 troops, 814 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
11 casualties reported

Time to get even more active in china!

In the DEI:

No Air attacks on my part.........on the ground:

Ground combat at Soerabaja

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 86170 troops, 1024 guns, 7 vehicles

Defending force 50059 troops, 333 guns, 43 vehicles

7/11/42'

Operation Bleed the Allies of supply is in play..........

Day Air attack on Hengchow , at 45,37

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 27
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 26
Ki-21 Sally x 69

No Japanese losses

Allied ground losses:
10 casualties reported

Airbase hits 7
Airbase supply hits 6
Runway hits 29

Hengchow and Homan are targets for my land forces as well as Airforce. Combined i'm trying to burn all the supply possible in china.
Last turn saw a less than optimum 0 to 1 attack at homan, though i did lower the fortification level down to 7.

As a prelude to my Bombers blasting his airbases and supplies my fighters need to defeat the RAF that replaced the decimated Chinese fighter squadrons.

Day Air attack on Sian , at 47,29

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 26

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 14
Hurricane II x 10

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mohawk IV: 5 destroyed, 1 damaged
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed

Also:
Day Air attack on Homan , at 49,30

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 23

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 13
Hurricane II x 6

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mohawk IV: 5 destroyed, 2 damaged
Hurricane II: 3 destroyed

And also:

Day Air attack on Homan , at 49,30

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 8
Hurricane II x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mohawk IV: 6 destroyed
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed

All in all a very reasonable day in the airwar for China. i'm hoping to force him to commit his AVG group here as well, but not just yet.

On the ground in china its back to bombardment while my losses sort themselves out;

Ground combat at Homan

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 5463 troops, 174 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 102290 troops, 247 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
391 casualties reported
Guns lost 8

And my less than effective attack in the North:

Ground combat at Kungchang

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 688 troops, 22 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 128999 troops, 816 guns, 0 vehicles

My forces at hengchow are building backup their supplies for another deliberate attack.

In the DEI:

No air attack on Soerabaja due to weather!

On the ground:

Ground combat at Soerabaja

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 86547 troops, 1037 guns, 6 vehicles

Defending force 49704 troops, 337 guns, 43 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
229 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

I need to be doing Airbase or port supply hits! Damn!!

Ok the current situation............he has fallen back and been defending. I have been fortifying and getting ready for his McArthur like comeback. I made some errors with the routing of 2 divs.they missed their ships, which sailed empty.end result NO Noumea invasion in August as i'd intended and allowed for!
I'll do a better update after I run the next turn or so.......then use this to explain what and why i'm doing as i'm doing.
Goal right now is to get an auto-victory in 43' and take this puppy to the bank! My chance of success i'd rate at 33%.........Like the Cylon's "I HAVE A PLAN".

October 31st 42'.................

Our Imperial campaign continues to force the ruthless western dogs to the peace table.

Today the Imperial navy has reappeared:

Day Air attack on TF at 27,32

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9
D3A Val x 38
B5N Kate x 36

Japanese aircraft losses
D3A Val: 3 destroyed, 25 damaged
B5N Kate: 3 destroyed, 26 damaged

Allied Ships
BB Prince of Wales, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
BC Repulse, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
CA Cornwall, Bomb hits 3, on fire
CA Hawkins, Bomb hits 2, on fire
CA Exeter, Bomb hits 3
CA Devonshire

A carrier div. of the Imperial navy was sentout to support Rangoon and prevent an invasion by British scum or their lackys.
Simply because the British are able to call upon massive bomber formations of American aggressors, they have been shown the IJN still has teeth! BANZI! BANZI! BANZI!

Our landbased IJN airpower also spoke with some authority:

Day Air attack on TF at 25,33

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 21
G4M1 Betty x 21

Allied aircraft
Seafire x 34

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 5 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 4 destroyed, 13 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Seafire: 7 destroyed, 7 damaged

Allied Ships
CV Indomitable, Torpedo hits 1
CV Illustrious, Torpedo hits 1

The british in their arrogance have put themselves within our reach. The opportunity must now be put to good use, this was a start.

In China the IJA continues to advance, hold inplace and encircle the chinese forces. Hengchow will see the doom of some 14 chinese formations. Sian is still a meatgrinder, while Kungchow and the elite chinese forces are effectivly out of the battle for Chungking.
Air operations in china are about to start a new phase. City attacks on resources will commence tomorrow. Objective is to stop/consume as much chinese supply as possible.

A note on production:

As japan i setout to increase my HI.........ending the first year of war i haven't done as much of this as i'd wanted.

I wanted to standardize my IJA aircraft on two types of fighters : 1)Tojo's,for air-to-aircombat. 2) Tony's for anti-bomber defence. This I have been able to do with virtually all my Fighters outside of manchuria and 2 groups in japan currently refitted.

I intend to produce the minimum numbers of OscarII's possible, then refit them soonest.

Naval production i have increased and also converted a small merchant shipyard to naval. currently I have 1349 naval points a turn.

I halted shinano on day one.....also halted a number of subs, even the 33pt Glen carrying subs! The 33 point subs i have been turning back on,while turning all RO-type subs off.
I am also turning off ASAP all the CL type ships as soon as its possible.

I have increased armament points and vehicles.

Not real happy tonight.........this is the third time i have poured months into a campaign and for whatever reason had it end early. first time was with moses and was my fault, was ill then had an extended family obligation in Georgia that took me there for 3 months. He was sick of waiting,I was frustrated with the world.
number two........startedup with ADavidB,was going along well but issues at home caughgtup with me and i needed a break. the break was Witp or my marriage...I opted to stop Witp.
number three....dave and i got this one going and aside from some holiday slowdown we have been rolling along. Several things he'd said indicated he wasn't happy with the game system. Seems the system just drovehim nuts and he's had it untill bugs are fixed.
End result...........we made it through november 1st 1942 and here atleast for now is where it ends.
