First translate it into Chinese

Then sell everyone in China a copy for one cent.

Bingo $1.3 million dollars and over a billion opponents for WitP PBEM!

Hey it's just as clever as any of the other price cut suggestions.

I'd have to agree with you there...

Actually, it works out to 13 million dollars. That makes it an even better idea.

I'm pretty sure it's up to 15 million now. Do the same thing in India, and that adds another 10 million.

The problem is that cutting the price to a penny does not guarantee you sell it to any Chinese people anyway.

This is basic econ 101 stuff. When you have a product that has basically zero marginal costs, then your goal is to maximize revenue, pure and simple. You would rather sell 10 at $50 than 7 at $70. Ideally, you simply find the peak of the price/sales curve and price right there.

Of course, it is hard to know where that peak is, and what you REALLY want is for everyone who WILL pay $70 to pay $70, and everyone who will only pay $60 to pay that, and everyone who will only pay $50 to pay that, etc., etc. That is why there are things like "matinees" and "early bird specials" and sales. That is even MORE true for something like WitP. Which is why a graduated cost structure is a good idea, at least in theory. Of cours,e there are other factors involved (if people know it will get cheaper, they might wait and then end up not buying at all, value of continuing support, other products you are selling, perceptions, etc.)

So selling it for $.01 might get you lots of sales, but it is only worthwhile if it gets you enough to make up for the loss in per sales revenue, and at that price even the trivial marginal costs having to do with bandwidth and such becomes a factor.

So no, your suggestion is not really "just as clever". That doesn't mean a price cut is a good idea of course. But apparently it isn't a terrible one, since they just did exactly that...

Don't forget Africa either. A huge potential of future players there.

P.S. Need to install electricity to some places first

Faber we all know from playing hours of Civ that wheels needs to come first. There is no kite option.

For a penny, at least you wouldn't have to worry about competition from the software pirates.

Of course the next 'improvement' would be the installation of a despot to 'govern' the place (namely me)...actually crap that exists already in many parts of Africa. Hmm the tech tree appears to be knackered

Do it. You'll be wrong.....

First there was man
Then there was the wheel
Then the man used the wheel to make cool stuff
The man (me) became popular with the locals
The man decided to rule the peons
Despotism was created
Next day he invented electricity generation
Within 2 hours 12 minutes the PC had been thought of
Within 3 years and 4 months WiTP had been thought of and implemented.
21 years later the campaign is still ongoing

No,
First there was the kite...
the kite flew high in the air....
it fell to the ground.....
causing the creation of man....
Women were created later that same day when a beetroot fell from the sky.....or maybe an apple...it's one of those laws of physics......
You know Isaac whatsisname.........
Electricity came later....
followed by the TV dinner.....
WitP is the result of millions of years of evolution
You know Charles whatsisname......

Yes, but who's to say that their tech tree is right.........mine has been formed after years of hard research.....without the kite where would we be? Forget your pride and bow before the kite.....all hail the kite.....I hope I'm not getting carried away.

NO! NO! I was not joking. I am completly serious and Berkut has no idea what he is talking about my ideas are just better, and anyone with a differing opinion is just WRONG

Going back into relatively serious mode, I am amazed at the response this got. Berkut, I am a very litteral guy, so I know what I am talking about when I say this: You are too litteral, you need to relax.
