SemperAugustus -> New Japanese movie about the Yamato (12/12/2005 4:22:29 PM)

Dunno how many of you understand the Japanese:
http://www.yamato-movie.jp/

Basically its based on a book (well a trilogy), the author equates the fate of the Yamato with Japan. Yamato being another name for Japan.

hate posting links but I have used this one a few times....translation not so good but at least it gives you an idea of what is being said.

Its being released on Dec. 17th. Not sure about about international release, probably too sentimental for Western audiences knowing East Asian movies...

Well it certainly does look interesting after taking a peak at the trailer. Though it does look a bit on the "emotional" side for my tastes. That may not be the correct way to put it, it just seems to sway from what a movie set during the backdrop of war means to me. (ie TORA! TORA! TORA! or Das Boot are more to my liking) That will certainly not stop me from viewing it when it does/if it does become availible over here.

Sorta OT but, I recently watched "Downfall" concerning Hitler's last days in the bunker and was very surprised to find a movie that closely followed what I had read in books. I'd highly recommend giving it a viewing.

I've got my bottle of Stolichnaya ready and waiting for when they bring out the Clamato.
