Cheesehead -> 1D10 vs. 2D10 (12/14/2005 4:26:29 PM)

Hi Steve,

I don't remember if this has been addressed yet, but are you planning on using the 1D10 as the standard chart for land combat? I know that 2D10 has become all the rage, but I hope we can still play with the single dice roll.

SurrenderMonkey -> RE: 1D10 vs. 2D10 (12/14/2005 6:14:34 PM)

Let me vote for 1d10. My partner and I tried the 2d10 at our big game last year, and did not like it. Just our opinion.

Hey, if you want to go back to basics, how about 2D6? Those are the combat tables I memorized. I own over 100 little 6-sided dice in various colors; most of which came with new games when I bought them. I never developed a feel for 10 sided dice (or 20 sided). Those duodecahedrons just don't roll right - they're even are hard to say.

As for MWIF, both 1D10 and 2D10 land CRTs are available. The player just states which should be used at the start of the game.

Why not give option for both in the game.  I think most gamers play the 2d10 system.  Also allow for ALL optional rules in the game.

I would also like to see something where you can MOD the game some, like end of turn rolls, Air to air combat charts, counters, and such.  I think that will make many WIFfers happy.

Good idea.
Would it be possible to store them in separate files ?
I know counters are already, but the charts ?

I bet I kow what Steven will say : [sm=Christo_pull_hair.gif]

As Patrice noted correctly, ...

My goal is to created WIF on the computer based on RAW 7. Some modifications need to be made, which will result in a document I am calling RAC (rules as coded).

My goal is not to create a WIF design kit.

When it is easy and convenient to do so, I will provide data files the players can edit.

My goal is not to create a WIF design kit.

Those files may or may not provide access to everything every player wants to change. While they won't be openly user hostile, I will not make any serious attempt to make them user friendly either.

You should read the thread on PBEM that is tacked to the top of the forum.

You should read the thread on Directory for MWIF Forum that is tacked to the top of the forum. It is somewhat dated but everything in it is still correct.

My goal is not to create a WIF design kit.

I would not sound insistant, but I would like to say that IMO the demand is not to create a WiF Design Kit.

It is just to give the WiF Community the possibility to mod the game.

It may be hard or less hard, but the demand is not to give an interface to edit the game, just the possibility to edit files, provided the way information is built inside those files is documented.

This is a demand that people have because I believe they are accustomed to this feature (rather "easy" modability) in Matrix Games.

Jeff Gilbert -> RE: 1D10 vs. 2D10 (6/10/2006 12:17:23 AM)

So, I take it an "MWiF Design Kit" is out then?[:D]

winky51 -> RE: 1D10 vs. 2D10 (10/25/2006 9:39:26 PM)

Editing files is file.  I don't need an editor program.  But like with most WIFers they change the rules.  If the data files can be altered by those who play that would be nice.  No design kit is fine.

Snydly -> RE: 1D10 vs. 2D10 (10/27/2006 11:07:51 AM)

I am glad the Final edition of the game uses a 1d10 on the combat chart. I don't like the Bell curve to determine my result on land battles. I started playing this game when it was 1d6 for land combat with version 4.0. ... so I am thrilled it will be 1d10. See you on the Russian Front.

are -> RE: 1D10 vs. 2D10 (10/30/2006 1:35:41 PM)

You need 3 dice to get a bell curve. 2 dice gives a curve of this shape: ^

I like simple cumulative discrete distributions for modelling probabilities. That way the desired level of precision can be generated by adding more details/discrete entries. I've used polynomials, but they can be the devil to modify when the desired distribution changes ever so slightly.

Hi

As an avid player of Wif and someone who has been looking forward to Mwif for many years could you please just conifrm that the 2d10 combat table will be built into it as an option at least.

regards

Phil

See post #2 in this thread.

As a newcomer to the forum you might find it useful to read the Directory thread - or at least the 1st post there. The 'When' thread also is usually of interest, but start with the last big post by me on project status - it shouldn't be too far back in the thread. I'll be doing a new one/update tomorrow.

Edit: My last post on status in When is #179 - October 1.
