WW II Motor Vehicle Convoy in Missouri May 19-20th 2006. It is hard to believe we are just 6 months away from the 4th Annual WWII military Vehicle Convoy through the Missouri Wine Country. It will be held starting in Columbia, MO on 19-20 May 2006. The basic ground work has been laid for the event, and soon the finer details will be completed and registration will begin. This year’s event will venture to the north east of Columbia, and will include stops at the following locations: -Centralia, MO: The town known for the massacre of Union troops by Bloody Bill Anderson. The stop will include a presentation by a local historian familiar with the battle. -The Audrain County Historical Society, which includes lunch. The museum has a number of historic buildings on site, and also includes the saddle bred horse museum. -Tentatively lunch will include a steak dinner on the grounds of the Audrain County Historical Society. The ACHS is working through the Audrain Cattleman’s Association to make this happen. This will be included in the cost of the event, which right now is looking at $15. -Tentatively lunch will be served out of the back of a WWII CCKW mess truck. This is still in the works but it would be a welcome addition to the event. -A stop at the recently remodeled Churchill Memorial in Fulton, MO. Westminster College is the location of the famous “Iron Curtain” speech of Winston Churchill. It is currently under remodeling now and should reopen in the Spring. If you have been there before, it will have changed since then so this is a good opportunity to attend. -Lee Bishop has agreed to do another event T-shirt for us, and will likely have a Churchill theme. -There is discussion now of a Saturday night dance or get together, but this is still tentative. In January, the event hotel will be announced and the registration process will begin. Information will be located on the Rail splitters webpage, www.railsplitterslivinghistory.org . Questions on the event also may be directed at me at 573-489-4891, although I ask that you review the website before calling to try to answer your questions. WWII vehicles and uniforms/clothing are required for this event.
