Perhaps it might be a good idea if the Depot was formally down till its moved and we all get new passwords.

May be over acting but it sounds safer.

Yep. I'm now Mustafa.

Let's hope that insomnia's hairy mother will teach him some manners.

"May the fleas on 1000 camels fly up his nose" an old North African curse sent to Mustafa.[:@]

I'd like to add my own personal curse, but this is a family forum.[:(]

I'm just curious...

What can happen to this Insomnia-guy, assuming that he really is located in Turkey?

I mean:

LEGALLY happen to him?

Regards,

Roland

Puukkoo -> RE: Depot hacked again!! (12/24/2005 8:55:15 PM)

Torture is still used in Turkey.[8|]

RolandRahn_MatrixForum -> RE: Depot hacked again!! (12/24/2005 9:07:41 PM)

But will he be made responsible?

Remember the 'I love you'-virus?

The authors were believed to sit in the Philipines and were, AFAIK, never made responsible for their virus (also I regard the hacking of the depot as a worser crime than the 'I love you'-Virus).

Nothing will happen to him......to the Turks this is probably the most fun he'll ever have in his lifetime. By the way I hope it's very short..........

Well, apparently the server wasn't save enough yet. It is a shame there are people around who like to do this stuff. I hope Bernie will sort things out and I have full confidence in his abilities to do so.

I will not spend much words on the guy(s) who did this. They are basically a bunch of lowlives. I despise hackers. They remind me of the dirt I sometimes find under my shoes.

I guess the best thing to do is ignore the **** out of them and make the server hack-proof. The more anger is displayed the more joy will it do to the guy(s) who did this.

Here's an 'update' snipped from an e-mail Bernie sent to the admins this morning:
quote:

I've found out how the bastard kept getting in, and I've gotten that sealed
off (a variable that contained the DB password wasn't being cleared the way
it was supposed to be.

Our DB is fully recovered from a backup done just hours before the hack, so
we lost very little. Our hosting company did not charge us for the second
restoration, after I pointed out that THEY put the forums online after I
asked them not to, because I was updating the code.

I'll try to get an 'estimated restoration time' for the site posted later today.
