Mike Carroll -> Requirements for Refits and Upgrades (12/27/2005 5:48:11 PM)

I am playing as Allied and I have a carrier at Auckland for the Mar 42 refit. It does not seem to be happening. Do I have to send it back to the West Coast. I thought any repair yard would do.

do you have the refit enabled on the ship's detail screen?

Mike Carroll -> RE: Requirements for Refits and Upgrades (12/27/2005 6:07:02 PM)

Yes the refit is on. I am on turn 3 March so I am going to see if it has done anything. My other carrier refit but it was on the West Coast.

Whats the current SYS?

Don't have the manual in front of me but West Coast is definately not a requirement as i've upgraded US ships at Sydney.

IIRC system damage must be <4 for CV or BB refit

Normally for an upgrade to occur for a CV, SYS must be close to zero (it might happen if less than 5, though).

EDIT- must... type... faster...

Well system damage is 6. So I guess I will have to wait for a week or so and see if it upgrades. Better than sending the carrier back to the West Coast. Thanks

It may take more than a week to drop 3 SYS damage at Aukland. Unless it's a size 9 by now (unlikely in 3/42). The repair yard there will allow upgrades, but will not actually help you reduce SYS on a big ship.

I think you'll save a bit of time by moving it to Sydney or Melborne (size 10 port I think). It could take a month to reduce 3 points of SYS in Aukland. Maybe more.

Just a suggestion.

SeaJunk -> RE: Requirements for Refits and Upgrades (12/29/2005 9:52:29 PM)

Get it out of Auckland. Carriers and other high durability ships have no business refiting there.

Remember ship yards spend the durability of the ship in shipyard repair points to reduce sys damage by one... when that occurs.

Your carrier will have a durability of 80-120?. I think auckland only creates 15 shipyard points per turn so thats a long recharge rate.

Once the refit occurs (when sys damage is below 5) it then jumps up by a random amount (simulating the new junk installed) so you have to go through the repair cycle again.

Sydney is a better alternative or Pearl if you have lots of ships refitting at the same time.

Hope this helps.

Good rule of thumb is to only put ships in repair yards that are greater than their durability. I don't like putting BBs or CVs at even Sydney, unless the sys dmg is minimal.

Off the top of my head -

Aukland = 10 : DDs and smaller.

Melborne = 25 : CLs and smaller.
Sydney = 50 : CAs and smaller, and subs.

San Diego = 50 : CAs and smaller, and subs.
Seattle = 100 : Big ships.
Los Angles = 100 : Big ships.
San Francisco = 200 : Big ships.

Diamond Harbor = 25 : I don't usually use it, too close enemy LBA.
Bombay = 25 : CLs and smaller.
Columbo = 50 : CAs and smaller, and subs.

Nitpick: I know this is what the manual says, but experimentation and tracking have clearly shown that it is actually DUR+20 repair points that get spent.
