Peruna -> WWII Airwar book rec needed (12/28/2005 7:48:13 PM)
I just finished Eric Bergerud's Fire in the Sky and would like to read an equivalent book, if there is such an animal, for the European air war. Or perhaps specific parts of the air war in Europe, such as the Battle of Britain. Like Fire in the Sky, I'm more interested in a book that tells me how things happened and why they happened rather than what happened.
Len Deighton has written a book called Fighter: The True Story of the Battle of Britain and I believe one called Bomber. I mention these because I read his Blitzkrieg and found that the history is sound but better yet, the narrative is easy to read.
I read another book call JG 26 Top Guns of the Luftwaffe by Donald L Caldwell. It recounts the history of one German fighter squadron. Again, an interesting history that is easy to read.
I saw Deighton's books at the local used bookstore today, so I'll probably go back and buy those. Though an account of a single German fighter squadron sounds very interesting, too. So, I'll look for it also.
