Zap -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (12/30/2005 10:39:09 PM)

I just bought myself HPS Gettsburg. My favorite battle of Civil War.
I'll have to wait and see what Matrix does to improve this title. I hear it needs a better AI

Having had some success in introducing the missus to 'Riven' ... no shooting, no blood, I promise that its peaceful! I asked for a received a copy of 'Myst' which I'll try and get her involved with. heh heh... the first fix is always free [sm=00000622.gif]

My wife was very delegent in boxing week sale and she told me that
she found (she is not a gamer at all)
age of empire III
call of duty 2
and fear at 50% sale. She thought they are good buys (within her projected budget of 100 CAD)
and bought three of them at 90 CAD!
What a bargain! Viva my wife

I bought myself Civil War The Battle of Bull Run from Mad Minute and Fable for PC (listed above)
Battle of bull run was very cheap at 20 CAD but I read many good things about it
I hope both HPS and this one are worth playing
Good gaming

I bought myself HPS The First Blitzkrieg. It didn't do much for me initially, but it is growing on me as I plow through one of the larger scenarios. In the tutorial and Norway scenarios the unit density was such that it pretty much played as a "double-click on your stack, right click on the target, and check the results". Once I got into a France '40 battle with massive, densely packed stacks of units, I discovered how you had to carefully tailor your attacking force to avoid hitting the stacking limits. No way can you just click on everything in sight and then attack... the game won't let you. I am still trial and error at this point, but the combat system is growing on me.

Elsewhere, I got lots of beautiful turquoise jewelry from my Navajo friends [:)]

It was a good Christmas.

But then what can you give a man who already owns WiTP that wouldn't be anti-climactic?

Maybe Santa Claus mean't to give you WPO and the coal was to fire the boilers of your pre-WWII dreadnoughts?

Sarge -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (12/31/2005 6:31:08 AM)

First year in many I have taken a pass on game/s for Xmas.

WITP and COG pretty much take all the time I find to play a trun or two, I will be getting Les Grognards and 2nd Manassas as soon as they are released.

Hertston -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (12/31/2005 7:11:24 AM)

Only Star Chamber, which (as seems to be the pattern [;)] ) I bought for myself. That said, the only one I actually asked for was Legion Arena, which the Mrs said she couldn't find in the store (and she did get me a CD I'd been looking for for ages instead).

Veldor -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (12/31/2005 9:45:31 AM)

HTTR

There just weren't any other games that I even wanted...

Maliki -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/1/2006 5:37:32 AM)

None this year..Thank God.

Normally the games i get as presents come from the deepest recesses of the bargain bin...I try to act like i don't know that, but its hard sometimes.[;)]

I had an early Christmas with WPO

Do have some $400 in cash/giftcards to splurge with... But think I'll wait and see what comes out in 2006..

wodin -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/2/2006 4:52:47 PM)

War over Vietnam (superb)by trade

Falcon AF by trade (great sim)

Lock On (again good sim after the patch's)

Wings over Vietnam (A good little sim)

Nothing new has taken my fancy for a long time.

jwarrenw13 -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/2/2006 8:14:03 PM)

I got Uncommon Valor as an early present, but during the holiday (I teach; I have two weeks off, until this Thursday) I reinstalled CIV III Conquests and downloaded some modpacks from the civfanatics site. I'm having a great time with them. Rome, Midgard, Rise and Rule. I had forgotten how really good Conquests could be, and the modpacks are just great. I'm hooked again and have been playing for hours.

jvgfanatic -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/2/2006 8:30:35 PM)

Daisenryaku Pocket for PSP – It’s a Japanese only strategy game that has had over 20 previous versions on other consoles. I'm the Daisenryaku answer man in a few circles.

Popolocrois for PSP - I've played the Japanese originals but have always wanted an English version of at least one of them. Instead I got an English version of bits from all 3. I like it but most elitist strategy gamers would snub their nose at such a game.

Oh, and the PSP itself but it's not a game...

I got First Blitzkreig too. I like it a lot. France is hard as hell.
I have some questions about the game though and was wondering if there was a forum for it? There doesn't seem to be one on the HPS site.

Visit http://www.wargamer.com/forums/ and then publishers and then HPS simulations.
Also you could try http://www.theblitz.org/index.php

Thanks

mbelew -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/3/2006 11:50:00 PM)

I got the Special Forces expansion for Battlefield 2 as well as Resident Evil 4. RE4 is really well done, but not quite as scary as the first one.

TAIL GUNNER -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/3/2006 11:55:04 PM)

All I got was Call of Duty 2 and Battalion Wars for the GameCube...both of which are surprisingly good

My old clunker PC can't run anything made after the year 2000....[:@]

Kuokkanen -> RE: what game did you get for holiday present? (1/4/2006 10:38:56 AM)

I got Lords of the Realm 3 from my littlebrother in christmas of 2004. I played it couple days and haven't touched on it ever since. I got better games to play with, like Shogun: Total War... except I haven't played it much either becouse for some reason I can't pass even training missions [:@]
