SurrenderMonkey -> I need help! (1/5/2006 11:15:32 PM)

I need someone to convince me to buy WPO.

I mean, I love WitP (and UV before it) and I love Matrix, but ... I 've been sitting here staring at WPO for weeks w/o any interest. I mean, half the ships were never built, the conflict was (IMHO) ludicrously unlikely, the very concept of large-scale amphibious ops in the 20's hard to swallow, and the back story less than compelling.

Having said all that, I still want to support Matrix as a matter of principle (if only to make SURE that they publish MWiF eventually and the 2by3 'War in the East' monster).

So ... help me. [:(]

Okay, don't know how much this will help you.

I have both. I play mainly Japan as WITP and some of those turns are looong..... I also tend to get, at best a turn a day from my opponents - sometimes a turn a week for a variety of reasons.

Now in WPO I recently competed (well was roundly defeated)a short campaign in about 10 days, and some nights we got four turns done.

I like it because its similar, but different - and it plays very fast so its like the filling the the WITP sandwich?????

It also, in a strange way, is making me a better WITP player because it makes me more ware of the differences, and how to use them.

Roger

I like it almost exclusively from the surface combats.

There isn't enough of that in WITP. I won't risk ships in range of LBA or threat of CV's. In WPO, you can go wherever you want and look for a fight with the other guy's ships. And you don't have to worry too much about aircraft destroying your bb's.

Surrender Monkey, I very much suspect Matrix people are not philanthropists. If they want to make WIE (that is the game I am waiting for now, by the way), it's because they know there are many customers (the lot of us) who will buy it. I will pay for it (once finished). I won't be a philanthropist tough [8D]

SurrenderMonkey, if you feel as you do, then it would probably be a bad idea for you to buy the game.

I can truthfully say that I think WPO is a very good game, but given the assertions you make, that won't mean much to you, so you'd probably end up feeling you'd wasted your money.

I agree with your point, and also there is a huge difference in choice of TF composition, leaders assignment and size of TF. You know you will meet an enemy force but the diffference in ship capability means that youcan get soundly spanked if you don't have the right Bbs in the right place at the right time.... you also need to be close to base so that you can pop back easily and get more shells.

Admittedly I haven't had that many Bb encounters in WITP, but I suspect its much more about just having more on your side in these encounters.

In WPO sending what I thought was a group of BBs against my enemy BBs was very one sided as mine were actually pre-dreadnaughts and they got ripped apart by his dreadnaughts.

I won't buy because I just don't have the time to play it.
All the spare time I have goes into WitP, next game I'll buy will be WitP II [;)]

Well, if you really want to support Matrix, just send them a check once in a while.[:D]
