Nikademus -> RE: Out of sync (4/24/2006 7:03:43 AM)

USAAF sources also noticed that flak losses among recon assets has led to a better paying of attention to altitude settings for the precious assets. LoL.....guess the low alt mission through flak and fighter defenses is not such a good idea anymore. USAAF command ordered it's Burma F5 group which has lost 10 of it's precious Lockheed's to the heavy flak in Burma to recon from safer high altitudes as a countermeasure. [:D]

Bombur -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 3:28:50 AM)

nope! Rabaul - Xmas 43.

MAC has SPOKEN.

(crack of thunder)

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:18:09 PM)

How are you dealing with PT boats without strafing attacks ? It seems to me to be by far the best way to get rid of the little buggers [:D].

Are you restricting thier use to compensate for it ?

good luck both and have fun

Nikademus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:25:20 PM)

yes, i play with a self imposed house rule of no more than one full strength (12 boats) TF of PT's per base maximum. Having to fight through a PT "Fleet" just seems gamey and unrealistic to me.

Terminus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:40:46 PM)

What are you talking about? It's a well-known fact that the USN routinely operated 80 or 90 PT's in one location at once...[:'(]

Nikademus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:48:51 PM)

yeah, which prompted a historical KB to go on "PT hunting missions" too. Forget the enemy carriers....get the Boats!!!!!!! [:'(]

Terminus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:51:38 PM)

Well, whaddya think Midway was? They didn't want to actually invade that sand bar; Yamamoto had heard that Nimitz was using it as a big PT boat base...

Nikademus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 8:53:58 PM)

I was suprised that Parshalls and Tully missed the most important aspect of the Midway battle. The Japanese carriers were caught with their pants down because the planes were being rearmed with extra bullet ammo to take care of those PT boats guarding against invasion. [:D]

ny59giants -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 9:57:11 PM)

Nik,
Did you lose any of those "Nasty" American CL's (Brooklyn & Helena class) or do you still have them hidden away?? [&o][&o]
One of my opponents is learning to hate those class of ships and for some reason doesn't look favorably on 14" & 15" shells raining on his poorly escorted invasion fleets (Force Z). [:D][:D]

Nikademus -> RE: Out of sync (4/25/2006 9:59:01 PM)

the Gallant Nashville gave her life so that my reinforcement convoy might get through Japan's nasty cruiser/DD assets with minimal damage. CL Hobart took a fish and was badly damaged but lives on.

Xmas in Rabaul 43. [:D]

i do the same and dont use them offensively unless they are in proper range ( no paddling ) i guess you do similar, or do you just use them defensively ?

p.s midway PT boat hunt .. don't be silly .. they were after the oreo factory ( major factor in US army morale in the 40's) . and bullets have a tendancy to shatter crispy biscuits. [:D][:D]

Bombur -> Agreement (4/26/2006 3:02:02 AM)

-Japan and the evil colonialists reached an agreement on ship strafing (cannot be done). Another agreement is being negotiated on barge use for supplies. Meanwhile the war is relatively peaceful, but the enemy seems to be preparing another offensive in Burma

Bombur -> Betties are back (4/29/2006 8:40:30 PM)

-Japanese land based naval bombers attacked enemy units with mixed results. In Chandpur Betties damaged three warships. Intel estimates these naval assets were probably heading to Rangoon for naval bombardment. In Port Moresby, another attack resulted in one PC sunk and three AK damaged. Losses however, were high, particulalrly among escorting Zeroes. Yamamoto argues that the losses of pilots in missions over PM does not justify the damage inflicted, and, maybe, these missions should be cancelled in order to spare pilots for the defense of Rabaul. Tanaka was outraged by Yamamotoīs suggestion. Defense? What defense? Said him, the enemy will never be able to achieve Rabaul. Meanwhile, enemy heavy bombers attacked Shortland at not, achieving nothing but suffering heavy losses (3 B-17īs lost to flak)

-US air superiority over New Guinea was challenged as KB approached Northern New Guinea in order to hunt for survivors of the enemy convoy. While the convoy were able to flee at full speed, the presence of Japanese carriers resulted in a failed attack from PM, which resulted in 28 enemy planes being shot down at the cost of only two Zeroes. Meanwhile, B-17īs shifted to day attacks against Shortlands, resulting in 3 B-17īs shot down with the loss of one Rufe.

Nikademus -> RE: Bombardment (5/3/2006 4:13:17 PM)

The recent operations conducted by the Imperial Japanese navy only served to underscore the postion by SouthPac that extreme caution must be used when considering any operations for the immediate future. While certainly stung, and up till now thwarted from increasing their sphere of influence in the Coral Sea, the initiative nevertheless still rests with Japan and Allied commanders must remain wary and viligent for any sign of future Japanese thrusts...defensive or offensive in this region (or others). Rabaul remains a hotbed of naval land based air activity as well and is still capable of putting a large number of bombers and fighters into the air....enough to swamp Port Morosby's fighter defenses, but not without cost.

New Guneau remains dominated by local Allied airpower. The advanced bomber base at Lae remains empty, serviced only by small barges. The enemy has not attempted a major resupply since suffering major damage on it's last attempt.

SWPacific of course, disagreed with this assessment, citing Japanese timidity and unwillingness to operate under local Allied LBA superiority. Plans for an early advance on New Britian remain on the table.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 11/19/42

A question was asked to IJN leadership in the last meeting:

-What is Nik planning????

1-How to surrender
2-How to use the wonderful new P-38īs he received
3-A surprise strike in Central Pacific using his remaining carriers
4-Unrestricted submarine warfare against Japanese shipping in the SRA
5-How to make the B-17 carry torpedoes
6-An all out offensive in New Guinea
7-A night surface raid against Rabaul
8-He is planning nothing, just complaining that the game is unfair as carrier ressurection takes 18 months
9-How to confiscate all reserves of sake when he reaches Tokyo

Bombur -> Letter to Yamamoto (5/7/2006 4:41:32 AM)

-The following letter was sent to the Japanese Navy HQ in Tokyo.

-Dear Admiral Yamamoto, CinC of IJN

Given your coward behaviour since the 2nd battle of Coral Sea, Iīm forced to warn you about some serious concerns.
1-If you didnīt notice, youīre winning the war
2-As the provisional winner, you have the obligation to keep your forces in the offensive, according to Bushido code
3-Your failure to do so is a shame and a dishonour to you. If you eventually dies, how will you be able to face your ancestrals?
4-The Japanese failure to keep the offensive is having disturbing effects among our troops, as the inactivity in our fronts is harming their morale. Our soldiers are spending their free time drinking bear and going after South Pacific girls. Hopefully, the same is happening with your troops.
5-We have prepared lots of new toys to welcome you in the next offensive. If you fail to do so, we will be hardly pressed to explain the American taxpayer why we are spending all those US$ in Hellcats and other US made wonders
6-Considering all these things, I urge you to fulfill your obligations of an evil nation

Regards

Admiral King "sink us"

Bombur -> RE: Some action (5/9/2006 3:11:53 AM)

Lae bombed to stone age. Local commanders requesting more flak. How those B-17īs are flying at 8000 feet undisturbed, said one of the Zuikaku boys after he heard the news. On the bright side, the increased air activity is costing the enemy a significant number of aircraft. Intel reports 3 bombers lost over New Guinea (1 Wirrawy, 1 B-25 and 1 B-17)
