Who do you guys think had the coolest uniforms? Personally I like the Roman Tribunes. Damn they looked good. Late 1800's British officer dress uniforms looked really cool too.

BossGnome -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/7/2006 10:25:18 AM)

nazi SS. Also there is nothing quite like a Nazi offier with his kepi holding a luger and yelling "achtung! Amerikans!"

I also like the French soldiers of the early to middle 1700s. They had a spiffy tricorne hat with plumes, and swords were still quite in fashion at the time. You can't but admit that the musketeers had cool uniforms!

and then there's the vatican swiss guard...[:D]

Hi,

German WWII uniforms are cool. Remember Ed Harris in Enemy at the Gate?[8D]

As I quoted in an earlier thread....the Nazis were dressed by Hugo Boss..........now that's style.

doktorblood -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/7/2006 11:55:50 AM)

I've always thought that the Louisianna Tigers looked pretty spiffy.

Raverdave -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/7/2006 12:21:34 PM)

I have always had a soft spot for the Polish Winged Hussars. The Germans certainly knew how to look spiffy in WW2 and I also like the US marines dress uniform.

As far as I know, he didn't design them, he only produced those uniforms.

I like the German WW I uniforms.

captskillet -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/7/2006 5:12:19 PM)

German SS & Luftwaffe (I always thought that light blue looked cool........thats why I always liked the HErman Goering Dv.........a badass PZ div in light blue unis!!!!

Vancouver Canucks old Rink and Stick "C" Logo emblazened jersey (the original franchise panic job) and Minnesota North Stars.

captskillet -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/7/2006 5:49:13 PM)

If you count sports unis, again from a prejudiced view, but LSU & Texas football unis (UT's helment w/burnt orange Longhorn is exceptionally cool) are sharp!!!!

Hands Down

US marines in Fallujah
Germans in WW2

Treetop64 -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/8/2006 1:55:13 AM)

#1. Any of the US Marine specific uniforms.

#2. WWII Nazi SS black uniforms (if it's true that Boss designed those threads, then it certainly shows)

#3. The new US "Predator" camo uniforms.

Black Mamba 1942 -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/8/2006 2:43:56 AM)

Napoleon's Empress Dragoons of the Guard.[;)]

Or any of Napoleon's Marshal's.
They were all outfitted by Versace.[:D]

bradfordkay -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/8/2006 4:51:20 AM)

" I've always thought that the Louisianna Tigers looked pretty spiffy."

They also get my vote. I had some friends who reconstituted the unit for the NSSA (North-South Skirmish Association - a target competition organization, not re-enactors). The second national matches they attended were in a heavy downpour, and their red shirts faded onto the white and blue trousers, turning them pink and purple. From then on, we called them "the Pink Puddycats".

edit... the forum made me change the name slightly...

Crimguy -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/8/2006 7:20:52 AM)

This is probably my favorite uniform. Not sure what country (or that it matters):

do you have a link that I look at some pics? That sounds cool!

Crimguy -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/10/2006 4:19:54 PM)

Paul Verhoven did a good job in the Starship Troopers movie copying the Nazi uniforms and updating them - they did look pretty sharp.

First thing my wife did was call the kid from TV "Doogie Himmler" [:D]

That was "almost" a good adaptation of Heinlein's book - except for the fact that they left out the most important part of the bloody book - the armoured MI suit. That alone disqualifies it for a "decent" SciFi movie, although they did try to get the rest of the politics and some of the action at least moderatly right.

Now. I am a man of simple taste in some things, and like understated. An old USN dress blues (the ones you had to buy which had real "bells" and not just stove pipe pants - which were illegal for inspection but alright for libs - go figure) with properly salty white hat, and a good high neckerchief knot (usually tightened up as soon as your feet left the brow) is enough for my taste. Had a lot of fun, and got into some trouble with that one.

ilovestrategy -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/10/2006 11:40:25 PM)

I also like the old late 1800's Prussian dress military uniforms too, with the big, wide sash and a ton of medals. And dont forget the loooooong moustache! [:D]

Couldn't agree more. Without the nukes and jump suits, combat was pretty silly in the film. Heinlein had vision, the movie had gratuitous violence and special effects.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Coolest Uniforms (1/11/2006 3:00:23 AM)

It had nudity and explosions so it gets 2 stars. Great book...lousy movie.
