Jh316 -> So, have a question about air power. (1/7/2006 6:36:32 PM)

I'm playing the US in the long campaign, and can't figure out why my aircraft are always out of contact. I have lots of heavy and medium bombers purchased in every battle, but not once have any of them been in contact. It's getting a bit annoying, wasting all these points like this. I have no problems with my offboard artillery.

In the current battle, I have 4 Six Heavy Bombers and 4 Six Medium Bombers. I'm on turn 6 and none have been in contact.

All level bombers must be used in the pre battle bombardment (plot artillery to drop in turn zero) or you do not get to use them.

Were they ever under fire during a bombing run? I also noticed that if you don't call on them every turn, they tend to go out of contact. That has been my experience so far.

Frankly, I think you're better off using close-support planes rather than the medium bombers. Goblin's right -- the mediums would be used before contact is made (think "carpet bombing"). Once the opposing forces get in close contact, then the fighter-bombers would come into play. Am I on the right track in this line of reasoning?

If you're playing as the Germans, the Heinkels or Dorniers weren't meant for tactical support anyway. Many have argued for removing the mediums altogether. Unless they're for a specific scenario design, I tend to agree with this.
