mickbeau1 -> Version 1.5 to 1.6 or go beta? (1/8/2006 8:48:34 AM)

My friend and I are playing ver 1.5. We're thinking of upgrading to 1.6. Is that a good idea? Or is one of the betas stable enough to be a better choice?

Terminus -> RE: Version 1.5 to 1.6 or go beta? (1/8/2006 11:23:40 AM)

You should definitely upgrade to 1.6. From there, I'd recommend holding off upgrading further until 1.8 comes out (whenever that'll be). The beta versions have too many problems.

WHEN is 1.8 comming out?.

I just quit my only PBEM as the allies in end 43 ( beaten my opponent 4x already...., but reran those turns just for gamesake) and we want to restart our game under 1.8 with more houserules (max 50 AC per AF level, no allied 2e-->4e upgrades. max 30% cap etz etz)

I WANT 1.8 NOW !!!!!!!!!

I am getting writhdrawal symptoms [&:][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

Go to 1.602, this has some fixes of bugs in 1.6 and from my experience seems perfectly stable. Steer clear of the 1.7 betas

1.6 is fine.

The betas too are mostly fine though the last beta does introduce some leader and pilot quibbles while fixing others. I always recommend backing up saves for games that were started with an older version as a precaution. back up the last save before changing executibles and ensure both sides do it at the same time to help limit out of syncs.

Where does one find the 1.602 beta patch? Looked in Members area and only found the official patches.

1.6 has the ghost unit bug which 1.602 fixes

Matrix, in its infinite wisdom, has discontinued everything between patch 1.60 and beta patch 1.795.

Give me your e-mail address via PM, and I will send you 1.602, if you really want it. Notwithstanding what others have said here, it does not rectify the ghost unit problem, but I think it is a supreme pain in the @$$ that all those broken beta patches have been removed while the most broken one of the bunch, v. 1.795, remains, and no progress is being made toward "v. 1.80" except "as Mike Wood has time from other projects."

I didn't pay 80 bucks for this. I realize that many people here think I'm a flaming butthole (I tried to find one of these to make my new avatar, butt, you know...) for my "negative" comments. So, welcome to "WitP heartbreak hotel."

My position is that this game cannot be patched into a playable version because it is such a screwed up mess to start with. The only responses I have gotten are in the nature of, "WitP is the best computer game ever created," "you're nothing but a troll," and "all you ever do is see the glass as half empty."

I don't see the WitP glass as half empty. I see it as being half @$$ed.

Why do you keep coming back, when you know what's going on here? Are you that much of a masochist, pastyneckski?

Well, I don't keep coming back, I've been here all along, far longer than you have been, my trolling friend. Please address me by my correct online name, if you please, if you have anything constructive to say.

Sent you my email address, thank you. I figure its worth doing even if it just slightly lessons the chance of getting a ghost unit.

Ok thanks for the advice all.

SGT Swanson -> RE: Version 1.5 to 1.6 or go beta? (1/10/2006 1:29:37 AM)

Another thing to remember about patches and this game is: You can continue to play as long as the Jap player has the current turn when you BOTH apply the patch. For some odd reason this is the only correct way to patch without losing your game.

As for the rest: Patch to 1.6 definately!! Then patch with the 1.602 Beta if you want to.

Since there still seems to be a problem with the Auto-Convoy system (with 1.6 &1.602 patches) where if you use it, you can not take ships back off it (this seems to only apply to AKs), I would keep it off for your PBEM games. As for disapearing units, I haven't seen this happen in any of my games (I have only one going as Japs), but I have seen units disapear for a turn or two while marching in India. But they've always came back and would arrive at their destinations. So, I don't lose any sleep over that.

SGT Swanson -> RE: Version 1.5 to 1.6 or go beta? (1/10/2006 1:40:31 AM)

BTW if we all started spamming this forum with requests to fix the bugs once and for all and not worry so much over little piss ant stuff like missing ships (not incl. in game), they would probably get it out.

There's an old business rule that a boss taught me long ago.

If you do a great job then your customer will tell 5 people, and you may get 2 or 3 of them.
But, if you do a crappy job, they will tell 10 people and you will get NONE of them.

One other thing: Gary Grigby was the owner of the original game (PacWar). This game isn't even close to being a mirror image of that one. So, it makes one wonder just how much of the licensing rights he gave them so they could do this. I don't think they got all 100% of it. And that may be the reason for the bugs in this game in places where there wasn't any in the other one. They had to come up with their own hard code to cover those areas.

Just a thought.
