Is there anybody out there? Has everyone gone away? Is there no life to this forum anymore?
I'm appalled at the lack of posts about CEiA, or EiA for that matter.[:(] What's going on[&:]

There's nothing to say. No info from the developers, no pub date in sight, whaddaya want? Egg in your beer?

JimMerson -> RE: Is there no Life? (1/10/2006 3:42:36 AM)

Well... I have checked in from time to time over the past two years. I suppose we could continue to compain... Don't think that would help though.

I will say I was upset a couple of months ago when people started to ask about the best ways to play the major powers were. I thought they were play testing, not playing.

No raw egg in my beer, I want a "chicken in the pot". In other words, the developers and beta testers should be sharing information to satisfy or hunger for this game. Small bits of information will do just fine.

For me, the funny thing is that David Heath personally fired up EiA at WBC way back in August 2004 and gave a quick demo. So I've seen it. I believe. I expected that it would be out by Christmas - last Christmas! I continue to wait and wonder. Ever hopeful for good news, like "EiA Gone Gold" and "Pre-Orders Now Being Accepted." [&o]

Cheesehead -> RE: Is there no Life? (1/10/2006 8:49:02 PM)

I've never played EiA and am only interested in it because of its connection to WiF. I've checked in from time to time to see what progress has been made. Now I'm beginning to wonder if MWiF will come out before CEiA. The guy working on MWiF has given us an estimate of late summer 06 for a release of MWiF. Should we set up a wager...any takers on CEiA being released before MWiF?

Marshall ran a small demo at Origins in June of '04.

How is WiF linked with EiA, except they are developed by the same ozzie company? Do they have similar mechanics?

BTW. I am still here hoping.

Simple : they learned from their mistakes. CEiA give Matrix the clue to what to NOT do for CWiF. [8|]
They have in common to be two wargames, multiplayer and massive played for a very long time around a table.

Ursa MAior -> RE: Is there no Life? (1/11/2006 8:45:04 AM)

I see. What about game mechanics? Since the demise of HoI 1&2(overly complicated, bug ridden AI) I am still looking for a Grand strategy of WWII, where I dont have to organize from close airsupport to the lunch of every soldier. This approach is a bit ridiculous in a grand strategy (but would be good to play the camapign's detailed battles in WiR or SPWaW).

It may be offtopic, but what about WaW? I have read very mixed reactions.

Download the demo and find out for yourself if you like it [:D] - the mixed reactions you see are because some like the beer and pretzels approach, some don't.

An alternative grand strategic WWII game is Strategic Command - also has a demo - also pretty good, but has only the ETO as opposed to the world view of WaW. In terms of complexity/realism WaW is 1 step up from SC.

How can we place bets when we don't know the odds?

If you like EiA and you are interested in a WWII grand strategy game look no farther than World in Flames. WaW is fun for about a month, but it is very "gamey." World in Flames is on a level with EiA which should come as no surprise as they were developed by the same company. (EiA actually came first). WiF may be played PBEM quite easily using the Vassal or Cyberboard platforms.

I guess I was just trying to make a point and direct some interest toward a-d-g's other award winning grand strategy game...especially since the guy developing MWiF (Matrix World in Flames) is doing such an excellent job keeping us informed of his progress. Take a look at the WiF forum and you'll see what I mean. I'm also interested in CEiA and will most certainly buy it when it comes out, but the wait for both games is made easier by playing WiF PBEM using Vassal. Is it possible to play EiA using Vassal or Cyberboard?

Having played all 3 of these games (WiF, WaW and SC) I would like to add that SC and WaW are fun games, but neither is very sophisticated. I guess the term is "beer and pretzels." I would agree with Sterckxe that WaW is astep up from SC, but not by much. If I was going to rate the 3 games on a 1-10 scales for complexity, SC would get a 1, WaW a 3 and WiF a 9. I would also like to add that I maintained interest in the two "beer and pretzel" games for a month or two. Then you figure out all the gamey strategies. If you don't apply those gamey strategies you get slaughtered when playing PBEM. I've been playing WiF for 3 years and I'm only beginning to scratch the surface in appreciating the strategy. Of course a typical game of WiF takes about 100 hours to play. If you have the time to learn and play WiF, this is the WWII grand strategy game to play.

Just for the recore, Hearts of Iron is a great game. Almost all Paradox games are.

I would agree to that on the condition that you only play Multiplayer with at least 3 other guys (6 or more is ideal). PBEM is impossible and playing against the AI is like shooting fish in a barrel unless you play with a severley restricted production capacity to give the AI a chance. I have found that this method of play balance throws the whole game out of whack. But I have to say, I really appreciate the whole concept of the game, and if they could only improve the AI without such severe production hamstringing I would try playing it again. Getting 6 people to play a game of this magnitude online is darn near impossible in my mind. Do you know anyone that has pulled it off?

Ursa MAior -> RE: Is there no Life? (1/11/2006 11:56:28 PM)

I agree with both of you. Spent nights (literally) with HoI 1, was so excited that didnt need any coffee. But after winning the war twice in a row, in 1943 (well not actually but almost whole Eurasia was mine) I lost my interest. But still play EU II and crusader kings from time to time. IIRC EUII's last patch was 1.3something.

There is a dedicated HOI multiplayer association with a pool of committed regular players/members, I don't have the web address to hand, but I am sure you can google it (HOI multi player association IIRC).

EU2's last patch was 1.09. It was just put out a few weeks back.
