Fred98 -> Front loader or top loader? (1/23/2006 2:41:58 PM)

When you are On The Road Again, every laundromat has a front loader. But most homes use a top loader.

Professionals knows best. Is it better to use a front loader or a top loader?

Terminus -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/23/2006 2:47:31 PM)

Wow! It's only January 23rd, and I think we already have a winner for Most OT post of 2006![;)]

bradclark1 -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/23/2006 6:24:33 PM)

Front loaders take smaller loads but use way less water and is more energy efficent. We bought one two weeks ago and have been pretty happy with it.

carnifex -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/23/2006 6:30:51 PM)

A front loader is better because it provides vertical rotation which leads to more agitation and also prevents tangles due to the missing center column.

Not in this country they don't. I think I've only ever seen one, and that must have been nearly as old as I am!

Terminus -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/23/2006 9:21:45 PM)

Yeah, we got rid of the toploaders in this country eons ago...

oi_you_nutter -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/24/2006 1:52:20 AM)

top loaders are most common in the USA
front loaders are almost universal in the UK

both have their advantages

Neilster -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/24/2006 4:44:49 AM)

Frontloaders are for crowded, little houses in crowded, little countries [:D] .

Cheers, Neilster

Sorry mate, but here in the Navajo Nation we generally prefer front loaders. I left the old top loader behind when I left the old USA.

I was joking. A bit of research indicates that front-loaders tend to be more efficient but generally have lower capacities and unless mounted high are more of a pain to use. They are usually gentler on clothes but the new generation of agitator-free top-loaders may change that.

Front loaders are used more in the UK because they have their washing machines located in the kitchen.......I don't know why that is, you'll have to ask a pom.

Also remeber that January 23rd is the statistical most unlucky and worst day of the year for everyone in the western culture.

Thus, this thread appeared.

There is only one true way to load....and that is from the front......load from the top and be D*mned

Fred98 -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/25/2006 12:27:37 AM)

I have learnt more about washing machines here than I could ever learn from a washing machine salesman in a store!

Thanks!

Joe

Zap -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/25/2006 2:26:42 AM)

Yes, I learned something. I'm a minority; a top loader!

Thats right. Since we have a pretty bad drought here in Colorado, the city of Denver gave me a $200.00 rebate just for buying one. The thing I like the best about it, it practically dries your clothes for you because it uses less water.

SemperAugustus -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/25/2006 3:21:45 AM)

Japan has diagonal loaders, the main advantage being ergonomics without too much loss of the advantage of a front loader

Marc von Martial -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/25/2006 12:57:49 PM)

Top Loaders are vintage in this country here. Actually I can't remeber having seen one in action [;)]

Raverdave -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/25/2006 4:06:42 PM)

Well goddamn ! I top load and I am proud of the fact !

I would recommend those who strongly advocate one position to at least try another position. <see Kama Sutra page 1221, for discussion of diagonal loading>

Ummm....Capt. M were talking about Washing machines unless thats your thing which is cool too. Not that theres anything wrong with that. Plus, I didn't know that Kama Sutra had anything about washing machines in it. Those Indians were way ahead of their time[:D][;)]

Major Destruction -> RE: Front loader or top loader? (1/26/2006 5:51:54 AM)

You know how, when you find a stain on a valuable piece of clothing you will moisten it and apply a drop of soap then gently rub the stain between your two fists. That's how a front loader works. (Less effort, less water and more care.)

Remember in the old days when you had to take your clothes down to the creek and pound on them with rocks? That's how a top loader works. (More energy, more water and more damage)

I guess it's because most 3 bedroom houses in the UK do not have utility rooms - they are either bolted on to a 3 bedroom house by the owner by way of an extension, or they are on 4 bedroom properties and above "as part of the package".

So it comes down to what you can afford. In fact, I don't know about other countries, but not only are houses egtting smaller, so are the gardens that come with them - and yet housing prices are climbing all the time! Sheesh! Capitalism!
