Tankerace -> RE: Patch? (1/26/2006 8:46:18 AM)

Well, a couple of things here (to set the record straight). Erik (and if you don't know I mean Erik Rutins) works on more than just this game, and hes been swamped. However, look at the bright side. I rushed 1.15 out to address all the issues that came to light (a few AI goofs, OOB inaccuracies, typos, etc). And unfortuneatly, in the rush to get it out, it borked the AI in many of the scenarios. With 1.2, given the delay, I've been able to do much more extensive testing (Say a 5 month AI vs AI game), and I think you'll be pleased. As to the AI twitling its thumbs (or is it twiddle... eh, I dunno), it is passive to an extent, but it does secure its objectives. Its not bad. Now, I will freely admit that it won't hold a candle to what you are getting in 1.2 (Let me put it this way. By Early November, the Japanese AI secured all of Luzon but Legaspi, Mindanao, some of the smaller islands in the area, began an invasion of borneo, and took Wake and Midway, and was preparing to invade the Hawaiian islands. The Allied AI, besides reinforcing Pearl, split its fleet between Pearl and Noumea, and invaded one of the Marshall islands, and at the end of the test was landing troops to retake Midway). So as to being unable to use the game, I think that's a bit extreme. Now if it were me, I'd play it as is to get a feel for the game, then restart for the OOB changes (which there are a ton of). Its not like War Plan Orange was broken at release. I'm not saying I like the fact that some AI bugs slipped through, or that I (and I alone) broke the AI in some scenarios in 1.15, but I stand behind my product 100%. However, as I was until recently a sole AI player, if Erik cannot get the patch this week, I will release the new AI part of the scenarios in a separate download. You won't get the OOB changes, but you will be able to play with the new AI. However, I have emailed Erik, and I am sure he'll get to the patch when he can. Believe me, nobody wants it out more than me. But, look at it this way, at least with WPO patches, you get about 10 new things for every bug fix. That's nothing to sneeze at [;)]
