It's now 7/28/44 and I've got my long standing opponent finally cornered in tokyo.. unfortunatly he's got about 70 or so units in there totaling 250,000 troops. I've finally brought my army to give battle but so far have only amassed a little under 300,000.. though they include some very good units like 5 marince corp divs.I've got about 500 4 engine bombers on daily city attacks and my whole carrier force off tokyo but his units don't see to be attriting very fast.. any ideas on what industry to pound to get the ground units to weaken faster?

Once our game is over I'll post a end of war report for all.. It's been a thrilling marathon and my gracious opponent has let me just whoop up on him this last game year rather then just quiting. Salute to you Tom [&o]

Jon

You need to destroy resources on home islands and to lower supplies there than that will be easy task for your army .

Both resource centers and heavy industry centers produce supply.

Cut off the oil and that'll take care of the industry.

Nikademus -> RE: Tokyo to go (2/3/2006 10:02:00 PM)

Bomb the resources first to reduce the supply generation and hit supply dumps, then switch over to ground attack...they'll pick the strongest unit and mess them up one by one. Going to be a tough fight with that many troops and the urban bonus. I hope you brought plenty of armor and Engineers.

Want to see the combat reports for this one!

tsimmonds -> RE: Tokyo to go (2/3/2006 10:15:19 PM)

Need to be sure to occasionally bomb the port and the airfield, just to keep it damaged; damage keeps his engineers busy repairing, burning supply and preventing them from building forts (course he's probably already a 9).

When you say you have him "cornered", this implies that he is surrounded there, is that the case? If his force is isolated, taking down the Tokyo resource and HI centers will end his access to additional supply points.

I've been concentrating on manpower but I think Tokyo is down to 32x(38). Tom and I have been playing this campaign since Oct. of 04 and I don't know how many patched we've upgraded since then but I've noticed my combat reports are not to be trusted.. An yes in tokyo I do have a ton of Armor and SeeBee units as well as all the artillery units I could muster.
It seems to me that the effects of ground attacks really are not that long term. Though I could switch to heavy industry and see if I notice any faster reduction.

Thanks, Jon

Depends, Ground attack is very useful in causing disruption and increasing fatigue which yes, is short term, but the disabling of combat assets "is" long term and will burn supply to repair. With as many bombers as you have, a good series of ground attacks can shatter even the strongest LCU. remember too that airfield/port attacks will effect the ENG and base units primarily leaving the combat LCU's intact and hunkered down in their trenches waiting for your troops to attack.
