Has anyone considered developing a system to award medals and decorations to pilots in bombing the reich. I realize award were arbitrary but certain awards such as air medals were awarded for a set number of missions flown as well as for valor. I just thought that it would add a some humanism to pilots. Not just the number kills.

[Pilot awards]

Interesting idea; for the USAAF you'd be getting Air Medals and DFC's, in the RAF DFC's and DSO's, and presumably Iron and Knight's Crosses in the Luftwaffe. I know the latter two had an award structure based on kill claims, which might be worth repeating in the game. The Allied awards were more mission-oriented, I suppose, so might be allocated on a missions-achieved basis. There's also the concept of rank - maybe promoting pilots as they achieve set levels of missions. At least the rank structure already exists in the detabases.

Awards would be nice, but how would you set it up ?

kills ?, number of kills in a mission ?, bomb damage ?, number of flights

Purple Hearts should be easy :)

something like Maj Howard being awarded the CMoH, we can not do in the game, most of what he did to earn it, would not be reported to us

I have had that single bomber trying to return home with a horde of fighters on it's tail, and the gunners keep damageing or knocking them down, and you watch and hope that they can make it home, it not fair that they should fall, after fighting so HARD and for so long, just to get home

You could do it somewhat mixed. How's about:

A flying award for completing say 20+random(1-20) missions (DFC or equivalent)
A Heroism award for shooting down 1+random(1-2) in a mission (fighters) - say a DSO
A chance of a heroism award for landing damaged bomber (say 50% per landing), shooting down any fighter, etc. (bombers)

Double the difficulty for an award once you've awarded it (to allow Flt Lt H Improbable, DSO, DFC and bar,

Have a 1% chance when any heroism medal is awarded that it is raised to VC, or something.

Mind you, it is a complete minefield here - different awards for each nationality, different awards for RAF commissioned officers and NCO aircrew, etc. Might be easier not to bother (I would hate a token system with RAF getting US Medals!).

And I have probably got the wrong medals to use as examples![&:]

To score medals for the Germans is easy just use their infamous points system. For the Allies use number of missions to determine DFC, AM and LM. For battle awards make it kill based. 5 for BSV, etc
