Let me guess, the problem with the option was that there was no way from keeping the entire front seven from collapsing on the quarterback. Which always allowed you running back to get the toss and get at least five yards before a defensive back stopped him. In the original Madden, i stumbled on a play that looked like an option that did this. In fact, it worked better with a slow QB, because it would take that much longer to pitch. And we were playing head-to-head, on the same computer. And that game allowed you to make audibles and you still couldn't stop the play. You could tell the defense you were running it and there was nothing the D could do about it. Eventually had to outlaw the play.
