ORIGINAL: Ron Saueracker Answer my question please. What difference does it make? Many players of WitP play one side of the game - and only one side. Their analysis of the game becomes one-sided as a result. Allied players have seen Japan do plenty in WitP that is unhistorical. The problem is, they fail to take the historical countermeasures that the Allies took against Japan. They also fail to take advantage of the unhistorical actions to inflict damage upon Japanese forces. Instead, they complain that the game allows the action to be taken in the first place. My challenge to AFB's is simply because I want to see the staunchest AFB's walk in the shoes of Japan - and determine for themselves if Japan is too strong or rules favor Japan too much. I want to play the Allies because having played Japan, I know many of her weaknesses - and I promise to try to exploit them as circumstances permit. So, to answer your question "What difference does it make?": I want AFB's to answer see the other side of the game. I believe that in playing Japan, the AFB will 1) understand Japan's limitations 2) understand how, when, and where to attack Japan 3) become a better (and more aggresive) Allied player and most importantly 4) understand how Allied players actions can lead directly to "unhistorical results" Anyway, I'm not an AFB or JFB...if anything, I'm fairly objective and simply want a game that comes closest to modelling historical capabilities. I can't stand it watching a P40 jock chalk up 5 enemy planes every time there is a sizable airbattle, or watch hordes of Betties I know were in the PI a day ago torp everything in sight with missile like accuracy 500 miles out to sea east of Kwajalein there very next day, or see subs get pounded by 20 escorts armed with ASROC, or see 50 paras force 200,000 men to surrender because they are blocking their retreat, or see 100 4E bombers bombing Japanese bases like it was 1943 over Europe, or maintain a seige at Singapore and Manila from supply generated in some steamy butt crack of a mining hole in Sumatra or Bornea, or watch 1930s tech planes of any nation perform as the F14 Tomcats on CAP over Nimitz do in The Final Countdown....... I have played as Japan but honestly, I'm just not real intrigued by being the offensive player. I like defending and as Allies, there is nothing but defending to be done, with a few little jabs oncein awhile. And if a PBEM lasts into 1943/44, I'm sure I'll get a crack at amphibious ops if my Japanese opponents don't give up once all the "fun" is over or if there is anything Allied left on the Map other than North America.
