Major Destruction -> the cmt file (3/4/2006 5:54:55 AM)

When receiving the game files during pbem, sometimes I notice that the cmt file retains the original datestamp while in other battles the datestamp changes i.e. becomes more recent.

What is the cause or reason for this?

Can somebody explain?

I would hazard that, because this file is the 'Comment' file created when the scenario or battle is built, it isn't changed anytime during the battle. While the .dat file changes as units move and fire, and the .rec file changes as each turn goes by, the .cmt is just the 'scenario name' file listed in the slot. Short of changing it during a 'save' process, it keeps the initial datestamp.

fair enough.

Then what makes the datestamp change in certain pbems but not in others?

Since the 'Save' name can't be changed in PBEM the way it can be in regular play, the only other possibility I can think of is that the three files (.cmt, .dat, .aux) are being 'converted' to scenario files for use in the Editor. Once renamed, the 'modified date' for them would change. But this is only speculation...there may be other factors that could cause the datestamp to change.

I'm not sure about the cause, but I've noticed the same thing as the Major - some .cmt files have an updated date stamp while others stay the same throughout the duration of the (PBEM) game.
