MindSpy -> v8.403 is top notch! (3/6/2006 1:10:19 AM)

Hello.
I am very pleased to report that after many, many hours spent on version8.403 of SPWAW, that I can definitely say, "Top notch; a job well done!"
I had experienced slow play with version 8.2; 8.3 was quickly overtaken by 8.4. Almost too quickly to get a sense of how it was working. Simply, the worst experience I had with versions 8.0 thru 8.4 was that my video constantly inverted. This meant hot pink smoke.
8.403 has yet to invert. As well I can start the game from a desktop shortcut. That plus the abscence of bugs or other difficulties. The game does crash to the desktop when I play several turns solitaire - usually around 4 to 6 turns. However this seems to me to be dependent on large scenario files.

Well done!
No complaints at all.

Gus

8.403 IS stable, but it was offered as a public beta, so, while it's safe to play as is, some enhancements will be incorporated into the next public release.

"Dressing up the old lady" does makes her even more attractive, huh? [:D]

It better be safe to play, I've been designing with it! The worst that has happened to me is an occasional "minimize" to desktop, and I was immediately able to bring it back up to full screen from the task bar, I suspect that's more to do with my computer, memory, and power stability than anything in the game.

I've been playing 8.403 exclusively since it came out. No problems except a minor one: all sounds sometimes stop, usually just clicking preferences and back starts the sounds again. I've never had a crash, using XP home ed, SP2. I use a shortcut directly to MECH.EXE.

I think it's a good version (shhh...dare I mention weak arty) and use the Programmers' Conventions too.

Hello.
Yes, she does!
More enhancements: heck that would be fantabulous.

MemoryLeak -> RE: v8.403 is top notch! (3/17/2006 8:22:49 PM)

I too would like the patch. By the way, several weeks ago I reinstalled and stayed at 8.2 because of siteing issues. Does 8.403 handle infantry being spotted more realistically and can I apply patch 8.403 directly to 8.2 or mudt I also apply interim patches first?

Get the patch, quit now.[;)] You need to install the 8.3 upgrade, then 8.403. Getting 8.3 is straightforward, check your p.m. for instructions to get 8.403.

P.S. You should prob. search MG and Depot forums to get a good picture of how 8.403 will fit for you concerning spotting and arty. effectiveness (I use 120% arty).

MemoryLeak -> RE: v8.403 is top notch! (3/20/2006 7:38:46 PM)

Thank you JEB I appreciate your assistance. So I take it that the patch labled v8.40 is actually v8.403?
And I have been to the depot but what is MG?
On a side note, I have thought about adding MODs and additional campaigns but the sites are not user friendly and I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I need to make something work and what is the latest version of XYZ mod. ANy suggestions on which ones work and which to avoid?
A perfect example of MOD Madness is Silent Hunter III. Geeze what conglomeration of MOD after MOD.

MemoryLeak:

Actually, you end up with a file named "SteelPanthersWorldAtWarUpdate-v8403-Updated-Beta.zip", this is not the same as 8.40. You do have to sign up specifically in the Members Club, in addition to the login you currently have for using the forums. You can use the same login and password, think of it as having two parallel logins, one for the forums and one for the members club. By the way, MG is just short for Matrix Games.

As for mods, it can be confusing. I'm only using some replacement weapon sounds, swapped in with Modswapper. I'm waiting for the Depot multi-mod to be finished, it sounds cool.

Try getting that 8.403 again, making sure to "sign up" in the members club just like in the pic I originally sent.

Happy hunting.[:)] Send me a personal message or email if you need additional help.
