OK is there a good step by step method explaining the production for the japanese out there? It's totally confusing to me. And not the one on Spooky's site it is pretty vague IMO. Will appreciate any help.
Thanks.

33Vyper -> RE: Japanese Production (3/19/2006 4:54:15 AM)

Okay .... first step.... get a standard pair of dice ... roll

did you get a 6 ....? no?

okay you did not produce any new zero's but you did produce 1 engine (type indeterminant), 1 type 92 tankette (sounds like a girl tank to me...must be pink) and it cost you half your oil, 3 geisha girls and 20lbs of resources.

wanna roll again?

okay back to reality....the production scheme is very complicated. The flowcharts and graphs that you find at Spooky's will probably explain it better than anything someone could write in a single message.

I would suggest that you search through the forum history there has been many a debate on how the production system works...what are the best things to do and when to do them...etc...etc...

I cannot remember buy someone wrote and entire piece on what industry to stop, what industry to keep going etc... i.e. some of the Japanese engine factories are producing engines that you will never use....so they should be stopped first. Many will tell you to stop producing the Shinano as she is a great big white elephant that will never amount to anything and will cost a fortune that you don't have.

Wish you luck !

I've only played japan over the past year (almost) and I've just gotten a good hold on most aspects of production, so it takes a long time to really 'get it'.

the easy answer to your question is that oil and resources need to be taken back to japan. oil will run your industries and also be changed into fuel. resources will be converted into supply. therefore take as much oil and resources back to japan as soon as you can and keep taking it back as long as you can.

as to aircraft and other production questions. just leave everything alone for your first game and then you'll see which airplanes you like to use for your next one. probably the only exception to this is to stop all the nate aircraft production.

after playing against the AI like this for a number of game months, you'll get the hang of what you're short of and what you have too much of. then next game you can tweak those areas a bit. the worst thing you can do though, is to change too many things too quickly. then you run out of supply and your frontline assaults run into trouble.

Japfanboy99 -> RE: Japanese Production (3/19/2006 7:49:06 PM)

Thanks for the advice. So turning on the auto convey at bases with the oil, ect will get them to their factories correct?

pauk -> RE: Japanese Production (3/19/2006 9:16:21 PM)

no, auto conwoys works only for supply. You need to do it manually ([X(].

Atoledo explained war industry 'rules'. But for the details you should be more specific.

here are some hints:

1. do not over expand your HI (you don't have enough oil for 15 K HI at the start of the game) - expanding HI cost supply*
2. do not over expand naval shipyards and repair yards at the start*
3. you have to expand Nakajima engines (you are short with them at the begining of the game)*
4. keep an eye on supply level (supply is needed for runing your war machine)

*expansion costs 1000 suply per 1 point (1 engine, 1 HI, 1 naval shipyard...etc)

Japfanboy99 -> RE: Japanese Production (3/19/2006 11:54:10 PM)

So can i move them to one location and they get distrubited? And do you move both oil and resources?

acmejeff -> RE: Japanese Production (3/20/2006 2:41:01 AM)

Yes you have to move both. Drop them off at any of the main ports on the main Japanese Islands and the AI will move them around as needed. The island in the north will need a its own drop of oil as the AI will not send any there but you only need to do that once every several months. That island generates enough resources on its own so no need to ship those in. There is also a need to move both to the large island off of china's coast as well, not much but keep an eye on the levels to keep the HI running.

1275psi -> RE: Japanese Production (3/20/2006 3:01:43 AM)

OK, Im no real expert ---

But,

Im my 1st game -wild expansion of everything - and not enough oil captured = disaster[:'(][:'(][8|]

2nd game - less wild -and things looking better

3rd time around -and I think I have it right.

1/ list all your totals -every turn!!! (a must)
2/ every month -look at your A/c consumption and adjust accordingly -I now go -ok, need an extra 30 sallies a month -so thats 60 extra engines -built 1st, then planes.
3/stopped all Rand D -chews up massive supply, do not repair R+d factories until they are going to come on line(I start approx 3 months before new plane arrives)
4/ does japan really need every AK coming -I now stop them individually as soon as I can (check once a week)
5/if you are going to expand -expand slowly -1 thing a month -that way you can carefully watch supply and HI levels ect.I now like to see supply always going up.
6/ I now even watch supply being dispatched from japan -calculate how much, and try to ensure its less than being produced.

The key is to be anal about it -check it every day!, and be patient with expansion plans!

Japfanboy99 -> RE: Japanese Production (3/22/2006 5:30:26 PM)

Another question, how often do I need to pick up resources and oil? Monthly? Or should i set up a run and just let it repeat over and over.

pauk -> RE: Japanese Production (3/22/2006 9:01:05 PM)

I do not know exact numbers but think that Jap needs 150-200 K oil monthly to run his industry at full capacity (at Home islands)...

I don't stick with my logistic plan stricky. Sometimes i run one big conwoy per month to HI sometimes i'm using lot's of small conwoys (keep in mind that small conwoys requires escort and it is hard to find them for all TFs)

generaly speaking this should work: smaller TFs transports oil and resource from exposed/small centers to bigger bases (ie Singapore) and then bigger TFs to Home Islands...

This is a question for a real operational optimization type person. I haven't tried to crack this nut yet, but it will boil down to the efficiency of your ships to move oil and resources. The very act of moving resources causes consumption of them in the form of fuel. In my current game against the AI, since I want Japan to conquer the entire map I am trying different systems which minimize fuel usage. That means being very careful about sending convoys and using as few escorts as I can get away with.

saj42 -> RE: Japanese Production (3/22/2006 11:52:00 PM)

I read a post by someone that said Japan needs at least 6000 oil a day to function. Don't forge that Saigon, Singapore and Formosa will also need oil.

Resource is more plentiful so not so desparate to micromanage exactly.

Pauk mentioned Nakajima engines - you need more so convert the Nissan and Ishika- wotsit ones ASAP (remember the 1000 suplly cost per point) and also the Hitachi engines when you have enough built for your few transport plane models.

Bangkok, Hanoi and China as well. And the southern base on Sachalin, too.

tsimmonds -> RE: Japanese Production (3/23/2006 3:11:10 PM)

Resources and oil will be moved around by the rail net pretty much to where they are needed, within a certain distance (25 hexes?). If you ship oil to Saigon, for example, it will be moved by rail to Singapore, Bangkok, and Hanoi (assuming you are using the stock map).

Japfanboy99 -> RE: Japanese Production (3/23/2006 8:54:19 PM)

Another production question. Does it matter when the resources hit during the month? Does production happen at the first of the month ir is it an ongoing thing?

Arstavidios -> RE: Japanese Production (3/23/2006 9:24:06 PM)

production occurs every day
