anarchyintheuk -> Photo recon (3/30/2006 8:16:51 PM)

I think that this was somewhat addressed in the wish list, but has there been any move towards greater automation of this? I could handle it kinda ok in BoB but BtR was something else.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/30/2006 8:24:25 PM)

it is still early, so no has not been looked at yet, but it is on the list of things to try and work on

not really sure what would be the best way to go on this

BB57 -> RE: Photo recon (3/30/2006 11:40:36 PM)

In real life recon would have targeted more than one site. If there is some way to get updated recon on maybe 5-10 targets on the way in and out from the main target that would be more realistic than one mission one photo.

Denniss -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 3:28:58 AM)

Somewhere in the whish list threads I suggested a totally abstract recon system using recon points and a varying chance of success of either only high-alt recon or high-alt + low alt recon (more, better target infos) or no sucess at all. Frees up pilot, plane and mission slots as well as removing problems on the Axis side as well (generated alert levels thus fatigue for Axis pilots but plane stats made them nearly invulnerable). This abstract system could be made to have a primary target set by user and one or two randomly chosen secondary targets (high-alt recon only then).

I have an idea to throw at the dev team. I might try it tonight for fun...

not to guibble, but you also got to remember there would be different reasons and different types of recon missions flown

you needed to see what damage a raid had done (Point) you looking for a target type, looking to see if target is active (Point)

you had general, where you just trying to compare what you see now and what you had seen before (more area)

you had mosic (?) low level and high speed movie cameras, where you might send out dozens of planes to all fly up or down the coast, just to see what was there

over all, the game system only tries to model one type of mission

maybe we can combine them, or abstrack them some more

plus, depending on the plane, I want to readd guns to some of the models

anybody know who the top Recon ace in the ETO was ?

Not sure but I'll take a guess at Val Rader 111TRS/67TRG

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 3:43:09 PM)

nope :)

the funny part is that there is more then one to even talk about

von Shagmeister -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 4:02:11 PM)

Another guess, Dougie Hall 400 RCAF Sqn

otisabuser2 -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 4:10:07 PM)

Can't remember the name.......

RAF pilot flew recon from Malta. Died flying from UK on a special mission for the USAAF ?

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 4:23:25 PM)

thats a good one VS, I should of said US Recon Aces

but no Dougie is not as high as the guy I looking for

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 4:30:02 PM)

list i see, I show V Radar at 6.5

so no he is not the one I looking for either

LOL, should of posted this on the other post

Speedysteve -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 4:54:40 PM)

OB,

You thinking of that crazy guy who flew tons of recce from Malta. Forgotten his name? Warburton was it?

Adrian Warburton. All his kills were in the MTO and Sarge says ETO. A couple of Warburton's claims were actually achieved by his gunners and as the pilot he was credited with them.

Speedysteve -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 5:02:11 PM)

Sorry VS,

I got it first [;)]

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 5:34:03 PM)

interesting guy

Nope

Warburton steadily developed a reputation as the leading recce pilot on Malta. He and his crew were frequently involved in air combats, claiming five air-to-air victories, and three enemy aircraft destroyed on the ground or afloat on the water. In April 1941, he crash-landed in Malta after being mistakenly intercepted by an RAF Hurricane. Warburton was rested later that year, but returned to operational flying in 1942, with further missions over Italy and North Africa. He crashed twice, but each time walked away to safety. He was involved in the vital pre-invasion reconnaissance of the landing beaches in Sicily, but finally returned to the UK after suffering serious injuries in a road traffic accident. Having recovered, he was posted as a liaison officer to the 7th US Photo-Reconnaissance Group, but was lost on operations shortly afterwards. His career had earnt him the Distinguished Service Order and Bar, and the Distinguished Flying Cross and Two Bars.

Speedysteve -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 5:35:11 PM)

Like I said. Crazy guy[;)]

von Shagmeister -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 5:35:15 PM)

Durr, forgot about the 10PRG.

Clyde East 15TRS/10PRG

Hard Sarge -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 6:21:26 PM)

Yeap
that the man

I show him with 13 kills in my book, but the list I been using shows him with 12

but still, 12 or 13 kills as a recon jocky, is pretty good

(of course, most of his kills were very late war)

watchtower -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 6:39:15 PM)

His exploits are well documented in this excellent book

Fortress Malta : An Island Under Siege 1940-43 by James Holland

von Shagmeister -> RE: Photo recon (3/31/2006 7:10:40 PM)

Credited with 13 (12 dest (+2 sh dest)), 1 unc dest

He made the 14th claim on 08May45 but no official reference against this claim - a Fi 157

It certainly is, but you should see what some of the Luftwaffe Aufklärer achieved.
