Fata Error 771 (Full Version)

OK - the game has been working fine for quite a while.
Starting today every time I try to load it I get a
'fatal error 771' message

Gameversion v1.6

OS is Windows98se

Mr Frag, I've the same with my PC (fatal error 771). OS is WinXP.
Please help.
And how did that registry mess up happen, e.g. how can that be avoided?

It doesn't just *happen* [:D]

774 = missing serial number
771 = missing registry keys

(771 means you either do not have permission to read your own registry - stop playing at work [:D] - or you copied the install to another machine and forgot to export/import the registry)

(774 means you copied the directory but did not include hidden files/etc [:D])

Or in my case, I copied to another bootable partition on the same machine, then rebooted but had no registry data in the new boot partition and got 771 ... WAD !!!

The real point here is, Matrix doesn't let you down. No matter what.
There is always someone around to help you out.
