Black Mamba 1942 -> Million $ Question about LCU retreats (4/14/2006 1:35:00 AM)

How in the hell can you tell which way these suckers are going to move?[:D]

Sometimes they retreat the right way.
One group at Clark Field actually went to Manila instead of Bataan.
Another group in China retreated back into enemy territory.

Does the amount of supply at the next nearest base decide the course of action?
Geez, why isn't this stuff in the documentation?
The loss of certain bases makes a whole slew of other bases impossible to defend.
Units might retreat backwards and get cut off and killed.
Instead of falling back, they advance! Huh?[:@]

There is no way to tell, I've seen them go "towards the enemy". Like movement, I think it is influenced by route, and like movement, often it ignores the presence of enemy units barring the path it is chosing.[8|]

I don't know the answer to this, but the way it SHOULD be is that there is a preferred path, like toward more troops or more supply and then there should be a random chance that they go another way, including into an enemies hex. Sometimes troops retreat and sometimes its an all out rout.

It SHOULD work that way, but it doesn't.[:D]

In a current game I'm having to fall back in India (way back), to keep my troops from getting retreated the wrong way.
I'm having to give up potential defensive bases for fear of these idiots retreating the wrong way, back toward the enemy.
It makes a fighting withdrawl impossible.BS!!![:D]

Im confused. Are you saying that they always retreat the wrong way, or they sometimes retreat the wrong way? Sometimes they should retreat the wrong way.

LCU's will always retreat toward the nearest base.
Bases that are at the same distance are a toss up.
This is the issue.

One of the bases is behind the enemy advance.
The Japanese are pulling a flanking operation.

The other is away from them.
This one should always be the correct retreat route.

So to keep my LCU's from being cut off and isolated, they are running instead.
To keep from being accidently retreated into a corner by the AI.
