dneely -> Beta Testing the 2006 Game (4/15/2006 9:11:53 PM)

Since I am one of the lucky ones with the opportunity to test the 2006 Alpha version I thoughtI would post some very early observations:

1. The DL and install was completed without any problems!! BTW the file was very large, around 124mega bytes.
2. The new animation adds a great deal in my opinion and is a big step up from the straight lines in previous editions. With additional improvements this will be a very nice upgrade.
3. The in-game managerial option are improved and with a couple more options will be complete, for those wanna be Earl Weavers out there.
4. The PSPN game cast is improved and will only get better.

I have not simmed a complete season so I have not played with the new Almanac feature yet but from what I have seen it will be a giant leap forward.

I will post more notes and comments as I move forward and hope those who are also testing will do the same. This 2006 edition looks like a terrific upgrade for Shaun, Matrix and PureSim.

I wanted to add some more props for Shaun and the new version.

He has added music and in game sounds to go along with the visual display of the flight of the ball. The sounds include, beer calls (more than one) cotten candy, hot dogs, cheering for the home team, chants and music for a rally and a great fireworks display when the home team hit a Big Fly. My personal favorite is the snaping sound into the catcher mitt on a wiff!! The PBP shows it has been worked on but I am hoping for more improvement in that area.

I know many of you were not calling for these additions but from the standpoint of making the game more attractive to a larger audience and widening the customer base, I think Shaun has added them without any compromise to the statistical and GM side of PS. For me the stats reports and depth are second to none.

Get excited guys!!!! you are going to love this version.

I'd add to that - I was really not expecting how much the soundscape and the ball flight animation would add to the game. I kid you not, I swear I smelled a ballpark hotdog from the row in front of me while I was managing a game! (And I'm vegetarian!!)
